Micah Parsons injury update: Cowboys LB makes definitive statement on status
After suffering what appeared to be a stinger in the first half against the New York Giants, Micah Parsons suffered another injury in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. However, he made a definitive statement afterward about his status going forward.
Parsons was walking around the locker room with a limp after suffering what appeared to be a lower leg injury in the final minutes, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota. However, the star linebacker told Dak Prescott “I’ll be good,” which bodes well for the Cowboys entering a mini-bye after the Thursday Night Football matchup.
Parsons left the field at MetLife Stadium on a cart in the fourth quarter after going down with the injury. He didn’t return as the Cowboys went on to seal the 20-15 victory over the Giants to improve to 2-2 on the young season.
Afterward, Parsons spoke with reporters and said X-rays were negative on his ankle. He also has an MRI scheduled for Friday, which could help determine his status for next week’s matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, the former Penn State star said he’ll try to give it a go.
In the first half of Thursday’s game, Parsons went to make the tackle on Wan’Dale Robinson, teammate Mazi Smith came in to help and appeared to hit him in the helmet. Afterward, the referee took him to the sideline, where he met with the training staff. The team later said he had a neck injury but would continue to play in the game.
“Micah Parsons was evaluated for a neck injury in the medical tent,” Prime Video’s Kaylee Hartung said later in the second quarter. “The concern, I’m told, was a stinger, which is irritation of a nerve at the end of the neck. So that helps explain why they needed so many medical professionals in the tent with him to get him to go ahead back on the field.”
Dallas went on to get the 20-15 victory over the Giants to get back to .500 on the young season. The Cowboys got touchdowns from CeeDee Lamb and Rico Dowdle to help lead the charge while the defense kept New York out of the end zone. The Giants’ only scoring came from field goals by Greg Joseph.
