Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian reveals latest status of Texas QB
The Texas Longhorns have been without starting quarterback Quinn Ewers since he suffered an abdominal injury against UTSA. Now, head coach Steve Sarkisian has revealed the latest status on his star.
Ahead of Texas’ first SEC game against Mississippi State, Sarkisian shared that Ewers is improving and explained that he doesn’t want to hide anything about the injury.
“Improved, but we’re not trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes,” Steve Sarkisian said. “And Trey Owens had his best week of practice.”
In place of Quinn Ewers, Texas started Arch Manning against ULM. A sophomore, Manning came into college as one of the most highly-anticipated recruits that college football has seen, joining the Longhorns as a five-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. In that first start, he threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns but he also had two interceptions.
For now, Sarkisian still hasn’t made a decision as to who is going to start this weekend against Mississippi State. However, he did set a deadline of Friday for that choice. So, it won’t be long before everyone does know who’ll be under center.
“It won’t be a secret,” Sarkisian said. “We’re not trying to pull the wool over anybody’s eyes. Just want to give Quinn every opportunity to see if he’s ready to play and what he looks like.”
