Gray (Ga.) Jones County four-star wide receiver Zion Ragins is planning to commit before the end of the summer. But at the moment, he is evaluating multiple programs.
Schools that have his attention are Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida State, Auburn and USF. He is taking official visits to the Sooners (June 9) and the Bulldogs (June 16) in the coming days.
“Who I have a good relationship really matters,” Ragins told On3. “I want to feel like I can go out-of-state or stay in-state and feel like I’m at home.”
Oklahoma is recruiting Ragins ‘pretty hard’
Regarding the Sooners, Ragins speaks with multiple staffers, including offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound wideout communicates with both coaches every day.
In addition to the “love and attention” he receives from Oklahoma, Ragins enjoys the environment in Norman.
“Oklahoma is in a city a little bit,”said Ragins, the No. 131 overall prospect and No. 23 wide receiver in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. “It’s different from home.”
Ragins can sense that he is a priority for the Sooners’ staff. That is because Oklahoma is recruiting the No. 22 player in Georgia “pretty hard.”
According to Ragins, the Sooners are prioritizing a good relationship with him, as well as explaining how he can be used in their offense. Heading into this weekend, he has a good idea of what he wants to see at Oklahoma.
“I want to go there and make I sure feel love,” Ragins said. “I want to see if it can be a home environment.”
Ragins likes what Georgia offers him
At Georgia, Ragins’ main contact is wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon. The four-star has already visited the Bulldogs multiple times.
“Georgia’s really close to home, so it’s not that far of a drive,” Ragins said. “My parents can come up, my family can come up and see me play at a top level.”
Coaches at Georgia have told Ragins that they want to use him in a “lot of ways” on the field. The Bulldogs and Sooners may not be the only programs to host Ragins, as he may also see Florida State and Tennessee this summer.
But so far, Ragins is liking what he is hearing from Georgia.
“What stands out is the coaching staff, how I’m being loved, the environment and the chance to go win a championship,” Ragins said.
