Florida Gators ‘helped themselves’ with Texas A&M Aggies commit Dealyn Evans on official visit

Florida has solidified itself as a top contender following his official visit last weekend, 4-star Texas A&M defensive line/edge commit Dealyn Evans of Longview (Texas) Pine Tree said Tuesday.

“They helped themselves a lot,” Evans told Gators Online. “It’s just the vibe there and spending time with all the staff this time. And driving around the city kind of opened my eyes.”

Evans, listed at 6-foot-4.5, 259 pounds, is the No. 16 defensive lineman and No. 114 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He committed to the Aggies 11 months ago.

All seemed to go well in Gainesville over the weekend.

“It went good,” Evans said. “I had a great time just hanging out with everybody — DJ Lagway, Xavier (Filsaime), Jordan Ross — everybody that was there.”

Lagway, a fellow Texan, was in his ear about Florida, Evans added.

“He wants to apply pressure but not always,” Evans said. “He also wants you to know he can just chill sometimes.”

Mike Peterson, Florida’s edge coach, was among those who bonded with Evans.

“I like him a lot the more I get to be around him,” Evans said. “He was around me a lot this weekend. They like my versatility. They could see me all over the field, especially on pass rush downs. I feel like I fit in good. A lot of schools don’t want me to play edge and they do and that sticks out to me the most. I like (that position) more and it’s more easy. I don’t have to go against fat old guards and get doubld the whole game.”

According to Evans, the Gators “are still in it.”

“I’m pretty locked in (with Texas A&M), but I like Florida a lot,” Evans said. “They’re probably the closest thing to (Texas A&M). (The Gators) show me the most love.”

Returns trips to Gainesville are probable.

“I’ll either be back again this summer or I’ll definitely get to a game,” Evans said. “I think I’m going to take it all the way. My OV to Texas A&M is in December.”
