Ryan McGee: Florida State looked ‘disinterested’ vs. Boston College
On Monday, bad became worse for Florida State when it fell 28-13 to Boston College. The loss was salt in the wound for the Seminoles, who suffered a stunning upset loss against Georgia Tech in Week 0.
Although both games were disappointing showings from Florida State, ESPN’s Ryan McGee believes there was a stark difference between the two. On Tuesday, the senior ESPN writer revealed what made FSU’s second loss even worse than its first.
“They looked super flat and they looked disinterested,” McGee said. “At least in the Georgia Tech game — and you were there, you know this — it’s easier to get a feel for it when you’re on the sideline and in the building and all those things — it didn’t feel like they were disinterested. But, on Monday night, it was like they didn’t want to be there.
“I felt like the offense was grinding, like desperately. [DJ Uiagalelei] was desperately trying to get them into the football game. And on the defensive side of the ball, there was no sense of urgency.”

Despite FSU quarterback DJ Uiagalelei’s best efforts, he failed to ever get the Seminoles’ offense rolling. He only completed 21-of-his-42 pass attempts for one touchdown while also throwing an interception.
Florida State’s defense, which experts had high expectations for ahead of the season, also failed to find success. The Seminoles allowed Boston College to tally 369 total yards of offense and failed to squeeze a turnover out of the Eagles.
Simply put, McGee is struggling to understand Florida State’s shortcomings.
“Now the word’s out: ‘Drago bleeds.’ So it’s gonna be like this until they prove they can stop it. But, I’m stunned. I really am,” McGee said. “I was at Florida and I could kind of feel that coming but with Florida State, I just didn’t. And I just thought, ‘Alright, you know what, long trip.’
“We talked about it on the podcast. All the FSU staffers told us before you all went to Ireland, ‘This is a pain in the butt. We’re really working to make sure everybody’s OK because this is weird and the travel’s tough and all those things.’ But that’s not the excuse on Monday night. I’m totally flabbergasted.”
