Former NFL ref Terry McAulay calls out controversial Chiefs timeout during Ravens drive
The 2024 NFL season is officially underway on Thursday night and the Kansas City Chiefs are taking on the Baltimore Ravens in a primetime matchup on NBC. There’s been a number of highlights throughout the game, but there was certainly one of the stranger occurrences we’ve ever seen when Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo called for a timeout. Keep in mind, it’s illegal for assistant coaches to call for a timeout.
Former NFL ref Terry McAulay chimed in on the situation on the NBC broadcast. “He can’t do that. It has to be the head coach to come down. Nobody else can call a timeout on the sidelines besides the head coach,” he explained.
No penalty was issued on the play and officials continued the game, business as usual.
