WR Jaylan Hornsby recaps key takeaways from Penn State official visit

WR Jaylan Hornsby recaps key takeaways from Penn State official visit

Penn State picked up some momentum on the recruiting trail this weekend, adding three new commitments to the class. However, wide receiver remains a crucial position that’s yet to see any movement following a coaching change.

With that said, the Nittany Lions do sit in a good position with a few players, one of whom is New Jersey native Jaylan Hornsby. Listed at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Hornsby has been on campus a few times, including two unofficial visits this year. Now, coming off his official visit, he has an even better feel for everything the program has to offer.

“On the way home, me and the family talked a lot about how Penn State had everything laid out for us,” Hornsby said. “You know exactly what you’re gonna get if you go to Penn State. As a player, as a student, whatever it is, they laid it all out there. I think they did a really good job at showing that.

“Also, just how much of a family they are there. That’s their thing and it’s genuine.”

Hornsby was hosted this weekend by junior wide receiver Malick Meiga.

“To be honest, Malick is my guy. We’re so much alike,” Hornsby said. “We’re both pretty chill, laid-back people. They did a great job putting us together. But we also went out with the rest of the guys and played basketball. I had a lot of fun with all the other players.”

Hornsby said that Meiga and other players spoke highly of Marquese Hagans since he arrival at Penn State back in January. As for their connection, that only improved over the weekend.

“I had a good relationship with Hagans before I came, but I think our bond definitely got closer this weekend. I met his family and he met mine. That was good to do. I feel like I know more as a person. We chopped it up a lot. I think we have a good respect for each other and what we could also do to help each other potentially. He’s a really good dude, in addition to being a good coach.”

Hornsby has two more official visits lined up. Instead of going to Syracuse this upcoming weekend, June 9-11, he’s now set to travel to Morgantown for an official visit with West Virginia’s coaching staff. He also has an official visit lined up with Texas A&M for June 16-18.

Currently, Penn State holds an 82.7 percent chance of landing Hornsby in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

“After those visits, I should know where I’m going,” Hornsby said. “I don’t think it’ll take me too long. I think that fourth week in June, I’ll probably be ready to get it over with.”

Hornsby holds a 90 overall rating, making him a four-star prospect. He’s currently the 49th-ranked wide receiver and No. 6 overall in New Jersey for the Class of 2024.
