CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell pokes at SEC over opening weekend record
Following the opening weekend of action in college football some marquee games are now in the books and CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell was quick to point out one of his key takeaways on Twittter.
Kanell shared his observation with his followers.
“You won’t hear this on any ESPN show but in the 4 marquee non conference games the SEC went 1-3,” Kanell wrote.
The SEC did, in fact, go 1-3 in those “marquee” games: LSU lost to USC, Florida lost to Miami, Texas A&M lost to Notre Dame and Georgia beat Clemson. Kanell’s count notably does not include Vanderbilt’s win over Virginia Tech, which might have been the SEC’s most impressive non-conference result.

In any case, Danny Kanell frequently engages in conference-specific discussion.
A former Florida State quarterback, Kanell is often a vocal presence when it comes to the Seminoles. He’s gone to bat for Florida State recently, accusing Nick Saban and Kirk Herbstreit of “gaslighting” the program.
Kanell also recently voiced his concern with the officials that called the Florida State vs. Georgia Tech game in Dublin, Ireland.
Danny Kanell goes after the refs
Following Florida State’s loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Kanell called attention to a particular play in the fourth quarter.
With less than a minute to go, Georgia Tech was running the ball and appeared to fall out of bounds. It’s unclear whether the runner got out before or after the whistle was blown, but Danny Kanell seems to believe the clock should have been stopped.
Georgia Tech would go on to advance the ball a bit more up the field and ultimately kick the game-winning field goal as time expired. The Yellow Jackets walked off the field with a 24-21 victory in hand thanks to the clock management at the end of the game.
