WR Jacory Barney is a playmaker and knows that he could have an impact at Nebraska

WR Jacory Barney is a playmaker and knows that he could have an impact at Nebraska

Miami (Fla.) Palmetto wide receiver Jacory Barney was one of only a couple of offensive targets to visit Nebraska this weekend. Nebraska commit Willis McGahee IV has been encouraging Barney to join him in the class, and once Barney got to Lincoln, he found a former high school teammate at Nebraska.

“On Friday, I caught up with my boy Corey Collier,” Barney said. “We played together in high school. He showed me around, and we hung out in his room and chilled. He showed me around town. We basically did that the whole weekend.”

Also, on Friday, Barney said he got to tour the facilities and the campus. The weekend was as much about business as it was about having fun.

“We toured the facilities. They showed us what it’s going to look like since it’s not done yet. It’s going to be nice by the time I was going to get there. It’s supposed to be done by the start of the season.

“They stuffed us the whole weekend. We ate a lot and chopped it up with the players and the coaches. And I asked my guy if that’s what it was like every day, and they said it was and that it wasn’t an act.”

Jacory Barney gets some red carpet treatment

There were only a couple of offensive targets on campus this weekend. The Nebraska staff spent a lot of time with Barney to talk to him about how they see him in the Nebraska offense.

“I was the only receiver there,” Barney said. “Coach McGuire and the OC had a meeting with the offensive lineman. We broke off, and we broke down my film. He showed me how I fit into the offense.

“That was his own way of doing things. He made that little clip for he and I, one on one, and just showed me love and how I can fit into the offense if I came to Nebraska.”

What Barney could do for Nebraska has a little to do with the offense but more to do with his capabilities. Barney could make plays for Nebraska in a variety of ways.

“I am different,” Barney said. “I can go up for it, and I can take a one-yard hitch for 90 yards. Whatever the coach needs, I can do. I make plays and score touchdowns.”

Nebraska visit gets a perfect grade; what’s left for Barney

The visit was perfect, according to Barney, but going to Nebraska would take some adjusting. He says coming from South Florida, going to Lincoln, Neb., would be a significant change.

“It was a ’10 out of 10’”, Barney said. “The school, the coaches, and the team was a “10”. Being from Miami, the town was different, and it will take some getting used to.

“I can see the family that they have there with their coaches. They have a lot of love there, for sure. Coach Matt Rhule has something going for sure. He is going to turn things around.”

Barney has three more official visits set up. He would like to decide shortly after taking the last visit before the Fourth of July.

“I have Texas A&M set up for the 16th through the 18th, and I have Illinois set up for the 23rd through the 25th. My plan is to go through all of these visits and make a decision on July 1st.”
