Michigan State releases week one availability report

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State will be without defensive end Avery Dunn for its season opener against Florida Atlantic, per the program’s week one availability report. Dunn is the only player listed as “out.” The Spartans have listed zero players as “questionable.”

Dunn, a redshirt senior, moved from strong side defensive end to rush end during fall camp. The Shaker Heights, Ohio, native has played in 20 career games, including three starts over the last two seasons. Dunn (6-4, 254) totaled 12 tackles, one fumble recovery and one pass deflection in 10 games last year. He missed two games due to injury. He also made 14 appearances on special teams.

Michigan State is expected to feature sixth-year senior Khris Bogle and redshirt sophomore Anthony Jones, an Indiana transfer, at rush end. Redshirt sophomores Tyler Gillison, a Cincinnati transfer, and James Schott are also in the room. Sophomore linebacker Jordan Hall received some reps at the position during camp as well. The expectation is that Hall can rotate in at rush end in certain packages.

Michigan State went without Montorie Foster for a portion of camp due to injury. Head coach Jonathan Smith said that the injury was minor and that Foster would be expected to return within a few days. It appears as though Foster is ready to go for the season opener. 

The Big Ten became the first conference to release availability reports last season. Availability reports are released at least two hours prior to kickoff. The SEC has followed suit this season.
