Michigan recently put an offer on the table for fast-rising 2026 in-state safety Marcello Vitti.
The Dearborn (Mich.) Divine Child product was fired up when he got in contact with Michigan co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach Steve Clinkscale and notched a scholarship in late March.
“Coach Clink offered me over the phone, and I was really excited,” Vitti said. “I love Michigan. It’s Big Ten football. It’s a school I’ve been looking at. Aidan Hutchinson went to my high school and then went to Michigan, so I have that connection. It meant a lot to me.”
While it’s still early in his process, Vitti is already starting to build a bond with Clinkscale.
“He’s an energetic guy,” Vitti said. “I was there for a visit, and I got yelled at even though I was a recruit (laughs). I’ll never forget that. He’s not scared to get on you. He seems like a great coach and great guy to talk to.”
Vitti has been to Michigan on multiple occasions, including for an unofficial visit this offseason. Vitti said he was impressed with everything U-M had to offer both on and off the field.
“The campus and the facilities are all the way up there,” Vitti said. “They have some of the best I’ve seen. The weight room is really nice. The practice fields are really nice. It was just a really good visit. Everything there is great.”
So where does U-M stand at this point in his recruitment?
“I have a long way to go, and I have some options,” Vitti said. “But obviously, Michigan is Michigan. It’s going to be up there.”
Along with Michigan, Vitti holds offers from Akron, Arkansas, Central Michigan, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Tennessee, Toledo and Western Michigan.
U-M has a 68.7 percent chance of landing Vitti, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Penn State is in second place with a 21.3 percent chance.
At 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Vitti is not yet ranked.
Vitti recorded 64 tackles, including 10 for loss, two interceptions and also racked up 814 yards of total offense as a freshman on varsity at Divine Child.
Vitti is part of the Sound Mind Sound Body program, which has produced U-M players like Will Johnson, Semaj Morgan and Makari Paige.
Michigan does not hold any commitments in its 2026 recruiting class at this time.
