Leigh Diffey sends message to NASCAR fans: ‘I’m doing my best for you’
Last weekend, Leigh Diffey made his debut as the play-by-play announcer for the NASCAR Cup Series and delivered an epic call. With Harrison Burton winning his first race ever with his father Jeff Burton in the booth, it was a perfect moment.
“Jeff, your little boy has done it!” will live on in NASCAR history for years to come. It is one of those moments where a historic team with an underdog driver, who happens to be part of one of the sport’s most notable families and it happened at Daytona.
This week, Leigh Diffey went on the Dale Jr. Download: Reloaded. He took time to send a message to NASCAR fans everywhere.
“I’d like them to know just how seriously I’m taking it,” Diffey said. “There’s not a single broadcaster on the planet that’s going to please everybody. But my message would be that the NASCAR fanbase is a sacred group of people and I have the utmost respect for it and for the sport and I feel privileged to be here and to have the position of commentating the races for you. Hopefully, people can see from last weekend at Daytona how seriously I take my research and to be prepared not for myself and not for my employer but for the fans, the viewers, right?
“We race because we love the sport, we race because we love the entertainment, it’s a business as well but the fans are the ones who need to be satisfied and I’m doing my best for you is my message.”

With races at Atlanta, Bristol, Kansas, Talladega, Homestead, and Martinsville – not to mention the championship at Phoenix, Leigh Diffey is going to deliver more epic calls. There are going to be more moments like last weekend.
Diffey has been awesome in IndyCar. His work for IMSA is always quality, even during long races that last 6+ hours. Not to mention his work in Track & Field during major events like the Olympics.
The NASCAR Playoffs are controversial for many reasons. But you can’t deny the drama that is created because of the format. Good or bad. With someone in the booth like Diffey, those intense moments will be matched with an intense call to the line.
Leigh Diffey is going to do great in the booth for NBC throughout the NASCAR Playoffs. Fans should embrace him and his enthusiasm for the sport. There are going to be a lot of fun moments to experience together.
