Dontae Carter from Cibolo (Texas) Steele took his first official visit this weekend, leading him to Nebraska. This was Carter’s first opportunity to see Nebraska and Lincoln, but he said people around Lincoln knew who he was. He also got to see the new facilities and continue building relationships with the Nebraska staff. The visit got a perfect grade from Carter.
“We got here on Thursday,” Carter said. “We just ad dinner and went to sleep on Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, we did a lot. On Friday, we went to the campus, talked to the academic advisors, and did a campus tour. We had lunch and then did a photo shoot. It was a long weekend, and it was really fun. I had a good trip. We also saw the new facility.”
Dontae Carter sees big things happening at Nebraska
The new facilities at Nebraska will be state-of-the-art and some of the biggest and best in the nation. Carter saw the facilities as a metaphor for things changing and improving around Nebraska.
“They are building some great things here at Nebraska,” Carter said. “It was cool to get to see it because it’s not finished yet. I am 2024, and it would be done if I commit here. This place is starting to blow up. The new facilities. New coaching staff with Matt Rhule. It’s all new for everybody.”
There was a chance to sit down and talk with players and the coaches on Saturday. The visitors also got a chance to hear about NIL.
“On Saturday, we talked NIL with the school, talked with a lot of players on the team, and got to talk with the staff. I met with the defensive coordinator and with coach Coop.”
The Nebraska defensive staff sees Carter playing everywhere in the secondary. Carter likes that idea because professional teams can see him playing various spots in the secondary.
“They are open to seeing me everywhere in the secondary,” Carter said. “They really want what’s best for me and the team. It’s a positive to get looked at to play in the pros because they can see that I can play corner, nickel, or safety. I can do it all, and these days they are moving guys all of the time.”
Nebraska staff is the same in person according to Dontae Carter
Carter says that he is still building the relationship with the Nebraska staff and that this weekend was another step in that building process.
“I have been growing the relationship with them before I came out here and getting connected with them. Seeing them in person and being around them all week was great. It was the same vibe. There wasn’t a front. We all clicked and are on the same page.”
Carter got to meet with some many players this weekend that he couldn’t readily remember who all of them were. The message from all of the players was the same. They are expecting things to change.
“I talked to Kaine Williams, Syncere Safeeullah, and I talked to Corey Collier. I forgot some of the guys’ names, but that’s a few of the players I talked to. They all said that things are really family-oriented and things are coming together.
“From the players that were here before Rhule, they said that the old staff wasn’t terrible. They were cool. But, they said that the new staff is really getting ready to do some stuff, and they look forward to winning.”
Visit gets a perfect grade, Carter set to take three more OVs
The visit got a perfect rating from Carter. There wasn’t a game this weekend or another draw for Nebraska fans. Still, a number of the visitors were recognized around town this weekend.
“I would rate it like a ‘10’,” Carter said. “It was fantastic. I am not even going to lie. The best thing was that the minute I got here, people around the airport, around town, walking downtown, they all knew my name. That was kind of crazy. I had some people ask me to take a picture with me. I was with Jacory, and they all knew who we were.”
There are three more official visits set in June for Carter. He wants to make a decision next month before his senior season starts.
“I am going to Texas Tech on the 15th. Then I go to Washington on the 21st. And I am going to Vanderbilt on the 23rd. I would like to make a decision sometime in July because I want to make a decision before my senior season.”
Carter finished his junior season with seven interceptions, 73 tackles, three forced fumbles, and eight passes broken up in his first season of playing defense.
