5 recruits Miami Hurricanes fans can be optimistic about as summer starts

Miami gave fans plenty of reasons to smile this spring, landing a 2024 four-star receiver in Chance Robinson and climbing into shape with five-star recruits like Justin Scott. Heading into the summer, the Hurricanes are giving their fans even more reasons to be optimistic.

Miami already has a good headstart in the 2024 class and is positioned to add plenty more commits over the summer with CaneSport believing the Hurricanes could land at least seven to 10 commitments in the coming month.

Here are five recruits Miami fans can be optimistic about as summer begins. Note that this is not a list of recruits on commitment watch — even though some have already been projected to Miami — but rather 2024 prospects the Hurricanes are in great shape with.

CaneSport did not include Five-Star Plus+ receiver Jeremiah Smith or five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson. Miami is still in contention for both recruits and has emerged as a threat to Georgia to flip Robinson, although the two prospects remain locked into their respective schools.

Justin Scott | 5-star DL | Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius | No. 8 national recruit, No. 2 DL | 6-foot-5, 310 pounds

The Hurricanes built on a tremendous April with a strong May in Scott’s recruitment, with both Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a making evaluation trips to Chicago to check up on the five-star prospect. The Hurricanes now lead for Scott in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, and I’m still standing by the RPM prediction I made in favor of Miami in mid-May. He’ll take his official visit to Miami June 16 after visiting Georgia June 2 and Michigan June 9. He’ll also visit Ohio State June 23, but the Hurricanes remain in excellent position.

Zaquan Patterson | 4-star S | Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna | No. 83 national recruit, No. 5 S

Patterson plans to take an official visit to Miami even though he’s yet to schedule any officials, but the Hurricanes haven’t moved on his radar. Patterson told Gators Online’s Keith Neibur May 15 Miami is still in the lead ahead of Michigan, Ohio State and Auburn, and the Hurricanes brought him to their elite junior day in mid-May (which included a pool party at head coach Mario Cristobal’s house). Miami leads heavily in the RPM.

T.A. Cunningham | 4-star DL | Miami (Fla.) Central | No. 156 national recruit, No. 19 DL | 6-foot-6.5, 275 pounds

Like Patterson, Cunningham also plans to take an official visit to Miami and has maintained regular contact with the Hurricanes’ staff since transferring to Central from Los Alamitos (Calif.). The Hurricanes are making a strong impression on Cunningham and his family. UCLAOklahoma, Texas A&M and Penn State are also recruiting him hard, but he said his positive feelings toward Miami haven’t changed.

KJ Duff | 4-star TE (recruited at WR) | Riverhead (N.Y.) St. Anthony’s | No. 281 national recruit, No. 17 TE | 6-foot-5, 200 pounds

Duff could take an official visit to Coral Gables in late June after the Hurricanes flew into his recruiting picture this spring. North Carolina and Rutgers seem to be pushing hard as well, but Miami has placed itself in a good position to land the four-star prospect. The Hurricanes are the heavy leader in the RPM.

Ricky Knight | 3-star CB | Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) The Benjamin School | No. 541 national recruit, No. 58 CB | 6-foot-1, 167 pounds

We’ve been keeping our eye on Knight for some time, and he’s now visited Miami five times this spring. He’ll visit the Hurricanes again for an official visit later this month and will also take visits to Florida State an Illinois, but Miami is making the strongest recruiting effort. His recruitment has largely been a battle between the Hurricanes and Seminoles, but Miami has pushed harder in recent months.
