Ohio State Five-Star Plus+ WR commit Jeremiah Smith won’t make final decision ‘until signing day’

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Jeremiah Smith sees all the tweets when people come at him for taking visits. An Ohio State commit since Dec. 14, Smith is keeping his options open when it comes to his recruitment.

That includes taking visits, talking to other coaches, talking to commits at other schools and not officially shutting down his recruitment until December and possibly longer.

“Not until signing day,” Smith told On3’s J.D. PicKell regarding a timeline on when he’ll make a final decision during the On3 NIL Elite Series presented by Mizuno. “I want to see games and how everything plays out. I’d say December but it might change.”

The No. 2 overall recruit in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, Smith will do a lot of that due diligence over the next few weeks. He kicked off June with an official visit to Florida (June 2) and will follow that up with officials to Ohio State (June 9), Florida State (June 19) and Miami (June 21).

The back-to-back national champions in Georgia hosted him for an official on May 19 where he connected with Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Dylan Raiola, a Georgia commit and the No. 1 player in the 2024 class.

“People going at me on Twitter saying ‘why you committed and visiting other schools?’,” Smith told PicKell and On3’s Josh Newberg in that same interview. “You’re not in my shoes so you don’t really know what’s going on. I’m just taking it day-by-day and building relationships with coaches because you don’t know who you might need one day.”

Smith told On3’s Chad Simmons that he’s hearing a lot of the same things from the schools trying to pull him away from Ohio State making it tough.

He hears constantly from players like Raiola and Florida five-star quarterback commit DJ Lagway who is trying to keep Smith in his home state.

“Georgia has Dylan Raiola. Who wouldn’t look at that?” Smith told Simmons. “You would look at Georgia because Dylan Raiola is the No. 1 quarterback and the No. 1 overall prospect. I’m going to look at Georgia.

“DJ (Lagway) is recruiting me hard and so are coach Billy Napier and coach Billy Gonzales,” Smith added on regarding the Gators. “Those three are on me hard. They text me each and every day. I have a strong relationship with coach Billy Napier and coach Billy G and Lagway, all of the offense. Gainesville is a good town.”
