Kyle Weatherman shares health update after hard wreck at Michigan

“Just got the call from NASCAR,” Weatherman said. “I am officially cleared to race this weekend. Just so thankful that all the safety features in the car kept me safe. Thank you everyone at DGM for building safe racecars, NASCAR for just everybody there and ready to help me and thank you Jesus that he just kept me safe in that car because it was a very hard hit.

“Very thankful that I just have bone bruising, nothing broke, nothing fractured, nothing dislocated, nothing. So, got cleared from the brain doctor, the body’s in good shape, ready to go. Little bruised and banged up, but we’re ready for Daytona. I’m gonna drink a Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, get it from Wawa and we’ll be ready to go.”

With less than 10 laps remaining in the race, Weatherman had a tire go down in Turn 2 while he was carrying tons of speed. His No. 91 Chevrolet quickly went up the racetrack and into the wall, becoming engulfed in sparks. Weatherman hopped out of his racecar but was in visible pain. He took a knee on the back straightaway before being taken away in a safety vehicle.

Weatherman, 26, is in his fifth full-time season in the Xfinity Series. He sits 23rd in the points standings through 21 races, tallying one top-10 finish.

“We’ve taken leaps and bounds, even when I drove the stuff from when I drove two years ago, but so has the whole field,” Weatherman said last month, via Jayski. “They’ve stepped up their game on spending money and getting stuff updated and moving in the right direction. It’s tough to see the results and gains.”
