What the experts are saying about new Notre Dame commit Sean Sevillano

Clearwater (Fla.) Academy International’s Sean Sevillano, the nation’s No. 883 overall recruit and No. 82 defensive lineman according to the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Auburn, Miami and Ohio State on Friday afternoon.

He is the fourth Irish defensive line commitment of the 2024 class and the first interior D-line verbal.

What do the experts think about the newest addition to Notre Dame’s 2024 class?

On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power:

“Sevillano is a compactly built nose tackle prospect. He’s very productive at the high school level and plays with high effort. I saw him at the Under Armour camp in Orlando, and he had a strong showing there. He won most of his reps in 1v1s. He’s physical and plays with pretty good quickness off the ball for a prospect of his size. His upside might not be as high as other interior defensive lineman due to physical and athletic limitations, but he can play fast as a nose tackle in a three-man front.

Prep Football Report recruiting analyst Tom Lemming:

“He’s a run stuffer. He had really good stats last year, but the competition level is weak. He’s a good interior defensive lineman, especially if you don’t get Justin Scott. He’s a big kid — bigger than the kid from New Jersey (Owen Wafle). They need a big guy in the middle. They’re not in on too many of those guys.

“I like him; he’s a good player. He looks good, but we have to wait to see how he looks against the real good competition. I think he’s a three-star plus or a four-star. He’s a good ball player.”

Blue & Gold analyst Tim Hyde:

“He’s a true A-gap football player. He’s not going to move outside more than a couple yards. He’s a plugger who will force you to double him because he’s 300+ pounds and will rip straight through one of the gaps. As he grows and develops, hopefully he becomes a dominant nose tackle to where he allows for one-on-one matchups on the outside.

“Notre Dame hasn’t recruited many true, 300+ pound nose tackles in a while. It’s a lot of hybrid guys who can play nose. But Sean is coming as an A-gap football player. That’s who I see on his film.

“He’s really quick. He’s compact and powerful in the A-gap. He has good hands. He likes to use the swim move a lot, but I’m not a big fan of that because he doesn’t have the length. He’ll bull rush on the interior and push the pocket. He’ll create pressure up the gut.

“He’s a big get, and Notre Dame wanted a true nose.”
