Ross Chastain delivers hilarious one-liner in response to P25 finish, tight playoff race with Bubba Wallace
Ross Chastain was tracking towards a much-needed top-10 finish in Monday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan before a late caution changed everything.
Martin Truex Jr. tagged the wall in Turn 4 with six laps remaining, forcing an overtime finish. On the backstretch of the ensuing restart, Alex Bowman brushed the wall, causing multiple cars to make brief contact. Unfortunately for Chastain, his No. 1 Busch Light Peach Chevrolet got loose and went for a slide. Instead of picking up his second consecutive top-10, Chastain finished a disappointing 25th.
Chastain, wearing his signature Busch Light Peach firesuit, said he was no longer feeling “peachy” after watching his solid run turn south.
“I don’t feel very peachy right now,” Chastain told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.
At this stage in the season with now just two regular season races remaining, the margin of error for Chastain is almost nonexistent. He entered this weekend just below the playoff cutline but had battled back to get above it, aided by Bubba Wallace getting caught up in Kyle Larson’s wreck in Stage 2.
Any breathing room he created for himself went away quickly during overtime. While he did manage to overtake Wallace for the 16th and final playoff spot, he heads into the ever-unpredictable Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona just a single point ahead of Wallace.
Not very peachy indeed for the melon man.

Chastain’s unfortunate outcome does open things back up for Wallace, who arguably had a race-winning car at Michigan. Wallace was riding a three-race top-10 streak and now goes to Daytona, one of his better racetracks. He finished fifth in the Daytona 500 back in February.
“Two races left, we’re still in the game, so throw Michigan away and on to Daytona,” Wallace said after the race. “Our guys did a good job… to show up here with speed and made it better from practice. Had good track position all day and it just didn’t work out.”
