Seven in-state prospects for Ohio State fans to know in the 2027 class

Seven in-state prospects for Ohio State fans to know in the 2027 class

COLUMBUS – On3 released its initial top 100 for the 2027 class and three prospects from Ohio were included on the list.

Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph tight end D’Angelo White, Akron Archbishop Hoban ATH Brayton Feister and Cincinnati Anderson EDGE Antwoine Higgins have all earned four-star status early in the 2027 class.

Those three are not the only in-state, 2027 prospects that Ohio State fans should know, however. Lettermen Row has seven additional in-state prospects in the 2027 class for Ohio State fans to keep an eye on.

Don’t forget about Jamier Brown

Huber Heights Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown was perhaps the biggest snub from On3’s initial top 100. Brown has blazing track speed and is the only prospect on this list with an offer from Ohio State.

Brown camped at Ohio State on June 5 and impressed enough to earn an offer from Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound recently told Lettermen Row that he plans to return to Ohio State this fall for a game-day visit.

“Definitely want to visit and go up there for a game, get to chill and bond with the coaches while I’m up there,” Brown told Lettermen Row in July.

Brown might not have made On3’s initial top 100 for the 2027 class but he will be one of the top prospects in the Buckeye State in his class.

Another strong cycle at defensive back

Ohio State has quietly become one of the top states in the country when it comes to producing talented defensive backs. Four-star cornerback Jermaine Mathews was the No. 1 prospect in Ohio in the 2023 class while four-star cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. followed him up as the state’s top prospect in the 2024 class. Then in the 2026 class, four-star cornerback Elbert Hill currently holds the No. 1 spot in the state of Ohio.

In the 2027 class, there are several talented defensive backs in the state of Ohio including Cincinnati Anderson cornerback Ashton ‘Ace’ Alston, Trotwood-Madison safety Darius Dennis, Gahanna Lincoln cornerback Mark Thorpe and Austintown Fitch cornerback Brayden Bryant.

Alston is a smaller defensive back prospect at 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds but what he lacks in size, he makes up for with technique and tenacity. Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton visited Alston at Anderson this offseason.

Dennis is the other prospect on this list that Ohio State has shown interest in. Ohio State safeties coach Matt Guerrieri worked out the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect at camp this summer and the Buckeyes will be watching him this season.

As for Thorpe and Bryant, neither have heard from the Buckeyes but both likely will in the future. Thorpe stands at 6-foot-3 while Bryant is 6-foot-2 with an extensive track background. Both already hold their first Power Four offers from Louisville and Kentucky respectively.

Two names to know in the trenches

Early on the offensive line position does not look nearly as strong in the 2027 class as it does in the 2026 class but there are still a few prospects to keep an eye on.

Along the offensive line, Perrysburg offensive lineman Reed Gerken is the name to know. The 6-foot-5 and 280-pound Gerken already has five offers to his name from Mid-American Conference programs. Gerken camped at Ohio State on June 5.

Cincinnati Winton Woods EDGE Jaylen Mercer is the name to know on the defensive line. The 6-foot-5 and 230-pound prospect looks like a prototypical EDGE prospect. He already holds offers from several Power Four programs and impressed Ohio State at camp this summer.
