Revisiting predictions for Georgia’s final preseason scrimmage
Preseason camp is over at Georgia. With the second and final preseason scrimmage in the books, the Bulldogs will soon start looking more toward opponents than at themselves from a fundamentals and instal standpoint.
Prior to that scrimmage, DawgsHQ made some predictions on what the buzz would be coming out of it. Now that it’s over and we’ve gathered intel, let’s revisit those predictions.
Carson Beck and the Georgia offense bounce back…
Sounds like it didn’t really go down this way. We’ve heard that the offense was anywhere from a little sloppy to pretty solid. The first-team offense didn’t really run the ball much and more than one source has told DawgsHQ that Gunner Stockton looked like the Bulldogs’ sharpest quarterback. With that said, we do know that the first-team offense generated a few explosive plays and it’s unlikely that anyone’s opinion of the group is going to change based on a scrimmage.
More Nate Frazier…
This seemed like the two-foot putt of predictions at the time because Frazier has just generated so much buzz this preseason. Turns out that it was as easy as I thought. Frazier ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run and looked really explosive in the process. We’re told that the play was blocked really well but it was Frazier’s speed and quickness that impressed. He also got dinged late in the scrimmage up and according to this video Georgia put out, absorbed a big hit from Samuel M’Pemba. The minor injury did not occur on this play.
Georgia gets its center back…
This is one of the best pieces of news from the day. Jared Wilson got some live reps with the first-team offense in the scrimmage. That means he’s on track to play in week one against Clemson. Drew Bobo got some first-team work as well while Tate Ratledge was back to playing a lot of right guard, the place where he has started the season opener for the past four seasons.
Christen Miller causes a stir…
Unless he had a big day and no one is talking about it, I whiffed here. Miller has had a really good camp and with Warren Brinson, Xzavier McLeod, and Jordan Hall all out of the scrimmage with injuries, I knew he would get a lot of reps. I haven’t spoken with anyone who believes he stood out in the scrimmage but that doesn’t change the way I’m looking at the 2024 season. It’s going to be a breakout season for Georgia’s third-year sophomore.
