Key observations from Florida Gators fall camp practice No. 14

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators were back in The Swamp on Saturday for their second scrimmage of fall training camp. The Gators have just three more practices left in camp before they turn their full attention to the Miami Hurricanes and start game prep for the season opener on Aug. 31.

Here are the key observations from Saturday’s viewing period.

Florida Gators practice notes

* Florida senior receiver Ja’Quavion Fraziars was observed on crutches for the second consecutive practice. He suffered left knee injury during Wednesday’s practice in the indoor practice facility, Gators Online has learned.

* A notable absence was UF junior cornerback Devin Moore, who was not observed during the viewing period on Saturday. Moore was in a non-contact jersey during the first week of camp due to an abscessed tonsil. He had shed his black jersey earlier this week but was back in it on Friday and did not practice.

It’s unclear if his downgraded status is related to his abscessed tonsil, but Florida coach Billy Napier indicated that it cause him to miss more time. “That’s all that’s wrong with him. We’ll get him going,” Napier said. “That might require a few things here and there, but he’s not physically injured.”

* A positive update on the injury front was the availability of senior defensive lineman Joey Slackman. He was limited earlier this week and missed practice. However, Slackman was back on the field for Saturday’s scrimmage as a full participant and was wearing a regular jersey.

* One player wearing a non-contact jersey for the first time in fall camp was redshirt freshman defensive back Aaron Gates. He warmed up with the team prior to the scrimmage but then went off to the side with trainers and did not participate in position drills during the viewing period.

* Several players who missed the first scrimmage were full go on Saturday, including junior EDGE Jack Pyburn, sophomore EDGE Kamran James, redshirt freshman receiver Andy Jean and sophomore cornerback Cormani McClain. A pair of offensive linemen, redshirt junior Kamryn Waites and true freshman Fletcher Westphal, are also available for the second scrimmage after being out last Saturday.

* One player who shed his non-contact jersey on Saturday was redshirt freshman guard Bryce Lovett. He had been limited for the last three practices but was back in action for the second scrimmage and went through OL drills during the viewing period.

* A pair of tight ends, sophomore Tony Livingston and redshirt freshman Gavin Hill, were in non-contact jerseys on Saturday. Livingston was still participating in position drills. Hill had been out earlier in camp with his right shoulder in a sling.
