Miami prepares to host top Minnesota prospect Wyatt Gilmore for official visit: ‘These officials are going to help me determine where I want to go’

Rogers (Minn.) Senior 2024 EDGE Wyatt Gilmore is placing high value on his upcoming June 2 visit to Miami.

Rogers, the No. 4 prospect in Minnesota, No. 41 EDGE and No. 634 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Ranking, has been a fast-rising prospect this spring who has been heavily recruited by Oklahoma, Oregon and Miami, among others. The three-star prospect recently included the trio of schools in his top five along with Minnesota and Kansas State, but he’s had difficulty picking favorites out of the group.

“I just want to get to know (the staff) better, and just the relationships, because that’s going to be a big thing for me,” Gilmore said when asked what he wants to get out of his Miami visit. “This decision is so hard. These officials are really going to help me determine where I want to go. They’re huge, these officials.”

Gilmore will visit Miami Friday through Sunday and plans to take officials to all five of his top schools. He said he plans to announce his official visit schedule in the near future but said his last official visit will be with Oregon June 23.

The Hurricanes started recruited Gilmore aggressively this spring as his recruitment has picked up. Miami co-defensive line coach Jason Taylor flew to Minnesota to check up on the 6-foot-4, 245-pound recruit on an evaluation visit, and the Hurricanes’ staff has communicated with Gilmore daily since his visit to Coral Gables for Miami’s March 4 junior day.

He said relationships will play a major part in his decision.

“They just think I could fit there,” Gilmore said. “They really think I’m the type of player that can fit there. …It’s going to be huge. Because out of these five schools, I could not tell you, ‘Yeah, I want to go to that one right now.’ I really need these officials right here to help me determine where I want to go.”

The Miami target, who holds an 87.61 On3 Industry Grade, said he feels he has the closest relationships with Oklahoma and Minnesota. All five schools in his top five communicate with him daily, but he said the Sooners and Gophers “are always talking to me all day.”

Gilmore tentatively hopes to commit around early-to-middle-July, but that could change depending on his official visits. He said he could commit “really early in July” if he feels it will be a clear decision but could hold off if he needs more time.

“For sure July, though,” Gilmore said.

CaneSport’s Take

Gilmore made our Who’s hot, who’s not list earlier this month as Miami locked in on him as a priority target, although Oklahoma has pushed hard as well to enter the picture. We expect to have much more clarity on Gilmore’s recruitment after June.
