Top-40 DL Kamarion Franklin prepares for Miami Hurricanes official visit this weekend as 4-star recruit kicks off massive recruiting month

Miami will host Lake Cormorant (Miss.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin for an official visit this weekend as the No. 36 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking kicks off a massive June recruiting month.

Franklin, who is also the No. 7 defensive lineman in this year’s recruiting class and No. 1 prospect in Mississippi, will arrive in Coral Gables Friday to kick off his first official visit of the summer and wants to get a feel for “how much of a priority I am,” he said. He wants to get a better feel for how he’ll fit into Miami’s defensive system before he takes official visits to Tennessee June 16 and LSU June 23.

OM Spirit’s Ben Garrett also reported Ole Miss could receive an official visit from him as well.

“I’ve been there twice, in January and March, and (Miami) made a big impression on me,” Franklin said. “This is my first official visit, so I’m expecting a lot from Miami.”

Franklin said he’s still trying to figure out his top schools and hopes to leave South Florida with clarity on where the Hurricanes sit. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Tennessee as the favorite to land Franklin with an estimated 75.2% chance; Ole Miss is listed second with a 5.9% chance; and Miami is projected third with a 4.2% chance.

Alabama sits in fourth with an estimated 2.8% chance to land the high four-star prospect.

Miami has been “a big part” of the 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive lineman’s recruitment so far and made serious impressions on Franklin on his two previous visits to Coral Gables. Co-defensive line coaches Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a have aggressively pushed for Franklin in 2023 and were reasons why Franklin wanted to return for an official visit.

“I’ve been to (Miami) twice without my mom and sister, but they’re going to come with me on my official,” Franklin said. “I want to see how well they recruit me and them. They’ve prioritized me, and I want to see if they’ll prioritize my family as well.”

Franklin pleased with relationships at Miami, LSU, Tennessee

Franklin said he’s scheduled official visits with the Hurricanes, Tigers and Volunteers because of the relationships he’s developed with the respective schools’ coaching staffs, and he holds all three in high regard.

His official visit to Tennessee will mark his sixth trip to Knoxville, and his official visit to Miami will mark his third trip to Coral Gables.

Franklin said he wants the schools to show him how much of a priority he is, not just tell him, and for schools to be honest about the role they see him playing. He added those criteria will play a factor in schools separating from the pack.

Miami has encouraged the four-star prospect to take his time in his recruitment and has not pressured Franklin to commit.

He does not have a hard timeline in mind for a commitment but said he’ll make his decision “whenever the time is right.”

Franklin has an On3 NIL Valuation of $160k.

CaneSport’s Take

Franklin is the first of a bevy of elite defensive linemen who will role through Coral Gables in June, including five-star prospects Justin Scott and David Stone and five-star EDGEs Dylan Stewart (the No. 1 prospect in the On300) and Colin Simmons, so it’s important Miami starts its summer off on the right foot.

Franklin says Miami coaches are talking to him a “few times a week,” and Miami has set itself up well to be a player in Franklin’s recruitment until the end.
