Last cycle, Oregon fell just short of signing multiple top 50 prospects.
At one point or another, 5-star quarterback Dante Moore, 5-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and 5-star defensive lineman David Hicks were committed to or strongly linked to the Ducks. In the end, all three elected to play their college ball elsewhere.
While Oregon rallied to finish with a top-10 class, it makes you think about what could have been had those three elected to sign with the Ducks.
In 2024, Dan Lanning and the Ducks have again put themselves into a great position to sign a handful of elite prospects. Let’s break down the three most important targets.
Baker is an obvious choice for multiple reasons.
First, he is an elite player in a position of need. The On3 Industry Ranking has him as the best offensive tackle in the country.
Second, Oregon struck out last year with prep tackles, although it did add a monster from the junior college ranks in George Silva. For 2024, the Ducks already have two tackles in the fold: 4-star Fox Crader and 3-star Trent Ferguson.
However, Baker is a cut above. He would be a take for any school in the country.
Third, Baker plays for Mater Dei, the SoCal prep powerhouse where Oregon would love to establish a pipeline. Having Baker committed would help lure other Monarchs to Eugene.
Oregon currently has a 76.9% chance to land Baker, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Another 5-star, the On3 Industry Ranking ranks Williams as the best linebacker in the country. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds with elite speed, Williams is being pursued by just about every school in the country.
That being said, Williams is believed to be focusing on a top three of Oregon, Alabama and Georgia. Oregon has been viewed as the favorite for a while, with the On3 RPM giving Oregon a 97.9% chance to beat out the SEC powers.
Linebacker is a clear position of need, as the unit struggled last year even with 5-star talent. And Oregon signed only one prep backer in 2023.
Another 5-star, Rushing is the third-best edge in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. And out West in particular, there is a dearth of elite outside pass rushers.
Which is why this is such an important recruit for Lanning and his staff.
Tosh Lupoi and analyst Kamran Araghi have been leading the charge for Rushing, who has long been a priority and he has made multiple trips to Eugene. He’s set to visit the Ducks officially the weekend of June 2.
Oregon leads in the On3 RPM with a 70.5% chance to land Rushing.
