4-star RB eyeing August return trip to Gainesville
When college football returns later this month, a plethora of prospects will be roaming the sidelines.
Amari Clemons, a 2026 4-star running back from Marianna (Fla.) High, will likely be one of them, as the University of Florida extended a game invite on Thursday. It’s for the season opener against Miami.
During the 2023 season, Clemons rushed for 1,365 yards and 22 touchdowns behind a stellar 8.9 yards per carry. He reeled in 17 passes for 323 yards and three additional scores as well.
“They talk to me. Earlier, they actually asked me about coming to the game on the 31st, It was (quality – control personnel) Lamar Sorey,” Clemons told Gators Online. “I should make it.”
Amari Clemons had a strong first experience at Florida
The last time Clemons made it to Gainesville was on April 4. He didn’t receive a scholarship offer at the time but ultimately received the green light less than a month later.
While there is still plenty to be seen, the in-state target is already excited about the possibilities at Florida.
“It’s the Swamp. What can you not like about it? I can’t say too much because I haven’t been to an official game, but they treat me well,” Clemons said. “I saw practice, walked around the stadium, nice facilities, and the stadium is massive. They were telling me to come back for a night game because it gets crazy.”
During the spring visit, Clemons’ potential positional coach made his presence felt as well.
“(Running backs) coach (Jabbar) Juluke, he’s a good man,” said Clemons. “He’s not just all about football; he’s about developing character and making sure you do the right things on and off the field.”
One day at a time
According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, Florida State holds the slight advantage over Florida. Those leading percentages are at 39.8 and 34.8, respectively, although Clemons is definitely in no rush.
Additional offers include Auburn, Miami, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, N.C State and Illinois.
“Going into my junior year, I’m not trying to leave anybody out,” Clemons said of front runners. “I’m visiting every school I can and going to make the most out of it, honestly.”
Miami, Florida State and Ole Miss are additional schools Clemons hopes to visit during the fall.
