Michigan fall camp quick-hitters: Wideouts that are standing out, Dominic Zvada’s stats from 50-plus, more
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy and special teams coordinator J.B. Brown met with the media Thursday morning at Schembechler Hall. Here are bullet points on the most noteworthy things they said.

WRs coach and pass game coordinator Ron Bellamy
• Bellamy has compared junior wide receiver Tyler Morris to former Michigan wideout Ronnie Bell in the past, and he still believes it holds true. He said Morris modeled some of his game after Bell, with whom he played for a season in 2022, and thinks he moves and tracks the ball similarly. He has “no limitations” as far as his ceiling, per Bellamy, who said he can “do it all” as a receiver.
• Bellamy pointed out that he’s the longest tenured assistant coach on Michigan’s staff.
• Michigan’s receivers have benefitted from going against junior Will Johnson — “the best cornerback in America.” The wideouts want the challenge and seek him out. Johnson does the same with the top receivers.
• Bellamy “loves where” sophomore Kendrick Bell is at in his development. He was impressed last season after Bell switched from quarterback how much he stayed after practice and got in extra work on the field.
• Junior Amorion Walker is re-familiarizing himself with the offense and playing wide receive, after featuring as a cornerback last season and spending the spring at Ole Miss. Asked why Bellamy believes he’s a good fit back at receiver, he laughed and said, “he’s 6-4, fast and athletic.”
• Morris spoke this week about Michigan wanting to “open up” the offense. Bellamy said the Wolverines are confident in what they can do, praising the other assistant coaches and Campbell as a play-caller.
• The biggest jump senior running back Donovan Edwards has made is with his leadership, per Bellamy. He’s “the alpha in that room.” His “energy and juice spread like a wildfire.”
• Sophomore wideout Fredrick Moore is “competing to be a starter.” He noted that Moore earned a role early last season while some other receivers were not at 100 percent, and he fared well.
• Sophomore wide receiver Semaj Morgan has “attacked” becoming more of a “complete receiver,” confirming what the player has said all offseason. He was used “all over the field” in high school and “that’s how we plan on using him” this season for the Wolverines.
• Youngstown State transfer C.J. Charleston has “experience,” a big reasons why the Wolverines added him out of the portal. Bellamy pointed out that there were no seniors in the wideout room before he came this summer. He’s been a “great addition.”
Special teams coach and safeties coach
• Junior kicker Dominic Zvada — an Arkansas State transfer who arrived this summer — has “done a great job” on long field goals this camp and been “consistent” on the shorter ones. From 50-plus yards so far in camp, he’s 6-of-7.
• At punt returner, Brown mentioned Morgan, Morris and Will Johnson as guys taking reps. Michigan is putting a lot of players back there in practice to build depth, knowing injuries can play a factor during the season. They want the “most explosive guy” who can take care of the ball and score points or get good field position, per Brown.
• Former Michigan special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh is “like a brother” to Brown, who worked for him as an analyst from 2021-23.
• Brown is also working with the safeties, helping secondary coach LaMar Morgan with “whatever he needs.”
• Michigan can have three players with in-helmet communication capabilities on any given play. The Wolverines haven’t decided if they’ll do that or use signals on special teams.
• Junior Tommy Doman, sophomore Adam Samaha and junior Hudson Hollenbeck are competing at the kickoff spot. Doman is the returning starter there from last season.
• Brown’s father, James Brown, is an analyst helping his son out. Working with his dad is “the best thing ever.”
