5-star F Koa Peat talks early UNC, Kentucky, Florida offers

Koa Peat is the No. 3 player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, an equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Peat was awarded the Arizona State Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 19.7 points and 9.1 rebounds. His Perry High (AZ) team won a second consecutive state championship.

“I’m a point forward that can score at all three levels,” Peat told On3. “I’m a defensive player who can facilitate. I’ll watch a lot of the bigger guards, Jayson Tatum and Luke Doncic, trying to take pieces from them.”

Peat played a significant role on last year’s USA Basketball u16 team, averaging 9.6 points in 20.1 minutes en route to a gold medal. Peat, who has a January 2007 birthday, was the youngest player on last year’s team.

“I came out here this year to show the coaches that I can be a leader,” Peat said. “I’ve been working on my game a lot.”

On3 caught up with five-star Koa Peat to get an update on his recruitment.

Peat talks Baylor, Kentucky

“We’re probably hearing from Baylor the most,” Peat said. “Schools like Kentucky are staying in touch with us too.”

Baylor: “Their program is like a family. They’re all together, and that is something they really take pride in there. They play a lot of defense there and have had success with big guards. I can see myself fitting in with how they play.”

Kentucky: “They develop pros, and that is something that has really caught my eye. Coach Cal (John Calipari) is a great coach.”

Peat talks UNC, Florida

“My most recent offers are from Florida, North Carolina, Houston, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, and schools like that,” Peat said.

North Carolina: “I know they have a winning program; they’re a blue blood. They develop players pretty well. I think Coach Hubert (Davis) is a really good coach.”

Florida: “Their coach went to high school in Arizona, so I’m pretty familiar with him. He’s young and all, but I think he’s going to do well there.”

In his words

“I haven’t really thought about visits yet; I know we can start taking them soon,” Peat said. “I’m just living in the present right now, trying to make this team and win gold.

“I want to play for a coach who lets me play my game. I want to go to a team that has a brotherhood and a great community around the program. Just having a level of trust with the coach that he will allow me to play my game and rock out when I go there.”
