Texas trending for 5-star WR Kaliq Lockett ahead of commitment date
We are less than a day away from finding out where Sachse (Texas) five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett will go to college. He is set to announce his college decision on Wednesday at Noon CT at his high school.
“Recruitment is 100% closed…see yall at Sachse high school at 12,” Lockett posted to social media Tuesday afternoon.
Texas is currently trending to land Lockett at 88.3% in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction favoring the Longhorns back in May.
”I like Coach (Steve Sarkisian’s) offensive mastermind style of offense,” Lockett told On3 earlier this week. “I like Coach Jackson’s perspective as an NFL receiver coach coming from the NFL to college and him translating his NFL perspective to college. I like how Texas is a little bit more close than everybody else. And also my past dealings with Texas.”

Breaking down the other finalists
Alabama: “I definitely like Coach DeBoer’s air-raid offense that he brought from Washington and I like what he’s doing with Alabama right now. I like how Alabama’s recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the best in the country. Then also I like Coach Shephard’s way of coaching the guys and his way of coaching when it comes to drills and how he translates that into games.”
Florida State: “I like Coach Norvell’s energy. He always has very high energy and he never changes how he feels about anything. I like how everyone at Florida State is in-tune with everyone and they’re all bought into what they’re trying to do which is win a National Championship.”
LSU: “My favorite thing about LSU is definitely the food. The food is something crazy. And also liked how many receivers they put in the league from the rich history behind the position at LSU. I like Coach Kelly, I like Coach Hankton’s coaching style, Coach Sloan’s coaching style and all that.”
Texas A&M: “New staff and I believe in Coach Elko. He has the opportunity to turn A&M into a top program in the country. I like the recruiting class also. I like Coach Wiggins and the guys he’s put in the league like Jerry Jeudy and Devonta Smith and those guys.”
Kaliq Lockett Recruit Profile
Lockett is the nation’s No. 17 overall prospect, No. 3 wide receiver and No. 6 recruit from Texas in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about Lockett as a prospect.
“Long-limbed pass-catcher with a large catch radius and functional movement skills. Measured in at 6-foot-1.5, 175 pounds at the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior season. Has elite length and a big frame, with arms that measure 33.5 inches to go with 10.25-inch hands. Shows the ability to win at every level on Friday nights and in the camp setting. Stacks cornerbacks off the line of scrimmage with his initial burst and releases. Offers the movement skills of a smaller wide receiver with the catch radius and high-point ability of a jumbo pass-catcher. Shows shake and good play speed to separate within his routes. Plays with a high level of technical ability.
“Catches with good technique, using his hands to frame the football. Shows acrobatic in-air ability with the wherewithal to out-jump defenders in contested situations. Also flashes high level tracking skills. Turned in a strong junior season, hauling in 59 catches for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. Will need to continue filling out his frame. Top end speed looks to be solid, but can be improved.”
