Josh Smith hits first career walk-off home run, gives Rangers win over Astros

It’s now or never in the AL West, especially with the Silver Boot on the line. Both the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros need to emerge from this week’s series with a win. And while Houston thought they were going to take Monday’s opener, Josh Smith had other ideas in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Despite being hitless in four at-bats on the night, Smith went into a 3-1 count ready to swing. Smith was then given a fastball at the top of the zone from Caleb Ferguson and sent it deep over the right field wall. Thanks to a ghost runner at second base, Globe Life Field was sent into a frenzy and gave Texas a 4-3 win.

Turns out, a walk-off home run was not on Smith’s list of accomplishments throughout baseball. Not just at the Major League level but at any level of the sport.

“That’s my first-ever walk-off homer at any time of my life,” Smith said on Bally Sports Southwest. “So, that’s the best feeling in the world.”
