Miami hoping to bring top-100 linebacker to campus for official visit

Miami hoping to bring top-100 linebacker to campus for official visit

Miami has gained traction with Washington (D.C.) St. Vincent Pallotti 2024 four-star linebacker Gabriel Williams, and the Hurricanes are pushing to bring the top-100 prospect to campus for an official visit.

Williams is the No. 85 overall prospect and No. 6 linebacker in the On300 and the No. 176 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, which compiles a ranking using the weighted averages of the four major recruiting services.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound linebacker said the Hurricanes want to bring him down for an official visit, but he’s uncertain if or when he’ll be able to make the trip to Coral Gables with a hectic summer schedule.

“We’re trying to figure out a time for me to get out there,” Williams said. “We wanted it to be an official, but honestly I don’t have any weekends available, so it’s probably going to have to be an unofficial when I get down there. That’s probably what’s going to happen. But we’ve definitely been in contact, and they’ve definitely been recruiting me and trying to get me to campus.”

Williams is “very interested” in taking an official visit to Miami but already has official visits set to Pitt June 2, Virginia Tech June 9 and Duke June 23. He plans to take a week for his summer 7-on-7 competition in California June 14 through June 21 but could see himself possibly taking an official visit during the summer, he said.

Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska have also grabbed his attention as of late.

If he does visit Miami this summer, it could likely be for an unofficial visit during the week. Miami 2023 offensive line signee Antonio Tripp has also played a substantial role in his interest in the Hurricanes as well as his interest from linebackers coach Derek Nicholson.

Miami texts Williams “every day,” which has proved more than some other programs, and consistency and player development will be the biggest factors in helping the Hurricanes climb on his radar.

“Going somewhere where I’m comfortable, playing in a defense that allows me to be myself and the environment and education (will play into Williams’ recruitment),” he said.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami needs all the help it can get on its front seven, and with the Hurricanes investing so heavily in defensive line prospects in the 2024 class, Williams would be a great addition to supplement this year’s defense. However, Miami is strapped for time after only offering Williams April 17, so a push needs to come now.
