‘I think they’re pretty close’: 2024 linebacker Taurean Davis updates recruitment, latest with Ole Miss
DeSoto Central (Miss.) linebacker Taurean Davis holds a few offers as of this writing. The Arkansas State Red Wolves extended one to the 6-foot-2, 225 pound prospect back in January and now Southeast Missouri State and Southern Illinois have followed suit.
The in-state recruit has also received recent offers from Mississippi Valley State, Navy and Alcorn State. But one program has not yet extended one which Davis is keeping an ear open for. The one program in particular who is keeping tabs is the Ole Miss Rebels and new defensive coordinator Pete Golding.
“I think they’re pretty close.”
Golding along with Ole Miss defensive staffer Brandon Deaderick are leading the charge for the DeSoto Central linebacker.
Taurean Davis was a tackling machine in 2022.
The Southaven, Miss., prospect managed to make 121 tackles in 10 games as a junior. He also had eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and one forced fumble. Davis averaged over 12 tackles per game despite the Jaguars finishing just 6-6.
Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mississippi State and Tennessee are also showing interest in Davis. Several others have joined the line as well.
“I’m hearing from TSU, Ohio State and Southern Miss,” Davis said. “Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee State have also started talking to me.”
A decision isn’t close but Taurean Davis says he expects this summer to be a busy one.
“I’m going to a couple camps for sure,” Davis said. “But I haven’t lined up anything specific yet. I do know I will be at Ole Miss June 9 for camp.”
The big-bodied linebacker is almost certainly going to see his offer sheet continue to grow after a few quality showings this summer. He was a standout at the CN1 Memorial Day Tournament over the weekend in Georgia. On3’s Jeremy Johnson was impressed with his performance in the openfield, covering shift wideouts and running backs.

Davis is also a state champion powerlifter. In March, he finished first overall in the 242 pound weight class. He squatted 490 pounds, benched 290 pounds and deadlifted 585 pounds.
Ole Miss’ 2024 class is currently ranked 19th in the country.
Basha (Ariz.) four-star quarterback Demond Williams Jr., Bay Springs (Miss.) four-star defensive lineman Kamron Beavers, Picayune Memorial (Miss.) three-star running back Chris Davis, Winona Secondary School (Miss.) three-star linebacker Fred Clark, Callaway (Miss.) three-star wide receiver Jeremy Scott, Pascagoula (Miss.) defensive lineman Jeffery Rush three-star Clarksdale (Miss.) Patrick Broomfield and Jones College (Miss.) linebacker Raymond Collins are the current commits in this class.
