In-state rising star CJ Sadler talks early recruitment, Michigan State interest

Michigan State offered class of 2026 athlete CJ Sadler on April 1 of 2022, one of the first offers of the cycle for the Spartans. Sadler, at 5-foot-11, plays both ways for Detroit (MI) Cass Tech High School, and is projected as the top recruit in the state for the 2026 cycle.

Sadler has picked up offers from Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn, and more.

“That is a great school,” Sadler said. “A great Big Ten school. They are doing big things over there and will continue to do big things. We should be going out there this summer.”

Sadler will not be able to communicate directly with college coaches outside of campuses until September 2024. He is maintaining relationships the best way possible, planning summer visits to Michigan State and others.

“I am keeping good relationships with all the schools,” Sadler said. “I am just going to see and test all the schools because I am so young, just keeping every school in mind and staying focused on my own stuff.”

As a true athlete, Sadler holds college offers as a wide receiver, a defensive back, and even as a quarterback.

“I am just working on everything,” Sadler said. “Whatever the coaches see me as, athlete, running back, receiver, corner, whatever it is. I will just explore my options off of what the coaches tell me.”

Sadler also runs point guard for Cass Tech on the basketball court. He will be busy in the summer playing for The Family AAU team based out of Michigan.

“I went on the spring bus tour,” Sadler said. “I haven’t taken any of my own trips yet. During that time it was basketball season. It is still basketball season for me. I play AAU for The Family so I am finishing that up and then getting in the gym for football.”

The rising star does not have summer visits locked in just yet but will look to take advantage of the month of June during downtime.

“I am just playing that by ear,” Sadler said of summer visits. “Just making sure I can get ready for the season coming up. Getting myself and my teammates ready to win the state championship.”
