Top-15 2026 prospect and top South Florida receiver Calvin Russell building bond with Miami staff
Miami (Fla.) Northwestern top-15 receiver Calvin Russell has already proven himself as South Florida’s top receiver prospect in the 2026 class and a possible future five-star recruit. So it was no surprise the Hurricanes brought him to their annual end-of-summer recruiting cookout Saturday.
The No. 14 overall prospect and No. 2 receiver in the 2026 class visited Miami’s campus for his first unofficial visit of the summer, although he was also on Miami’s campus twice in June for 7-on-7 tournaments.
The Hurricanes have pushed hard for the potential future five-star prospect and have made a strong impression since coaches became permitted to directly call and text 2026 prospects in mid-June. Receivers coach Kevin Beard and head coach Mario Cristobal have both made Russell feel prioritized and have impressed the 6-foot-5.5, 190-pound wideout early.
”It’s just home,” Russell told CaneSport. “It’s definitely the most convenient (to visit), so why not. It’s always good to get (around) coach (Kevin Beard). He’s given me some constructive criticism before and I got to use it the next week, and I loved it.”
Russell has more than three dozen offers from programs including Georgia, Oregon, LSU and Notre Dame. He was originally ranked as an ATH by the On3 Industry Ranking after playing a multitude of positions last fall, although most schools are interested in him as a receiver. He has visited Miami more than any other program, but Oregon, Syracuse and Florida State have shown interest in the blue-chip prospect.
However, his relationship with Beard and “the people wearing green and orange” have kept Miami in his top group of schools. Receivers assistant David Cooney has also played a role in his recruitment.
“The people that are around the facility, the people in the facility, people on the coaching staff, the players, the coaches, everyone is great people,” Russell said.
He also hopes to visit Penn State this fall for the Nittany Lions’ White Out game and attend the Miami-Florida State game in Coral Gables this season. Russell visited Syracuse June 2 for an unofficial visit.
LSU is also in the mix.
“There are a lot of schools in the same spot,” Russell said. “Everyone’s doing their job. At one point, it’s going to be about the school that stands out the most to me.”
He plans to narrow down his list by the end of the fall season and tentatively hopes to make a decision around next spring.
