Blue Chips: Early Michigan recruiting buzz coming out off BBQ at The Big House

*** The BBQ at The Big House has been going on all day today and will continue through tomorrow. Remember, some key targets like Top 100 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech wide out CJ Sadler and On300 Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith wide receiver Travis Johnson are not expected to be in Ann Arbor until tomorrow. Today saw the recruits tour the facilities, go through workouts with the staff, enjoy an updated food menu, compete in fun events at The Big House/an NCAA video game tournament and spend time with the coaches personally and in the film room. Early returns have been very position.

*** I’m told that Michigan has rolled out the red carpet for Top 100 Woodberry Forest (Va.) School running back Savion Hiter and his family this weekend. Hiter arrived yesterday and he and his family are scheduled to stay until tomorrow evening. The Hiter family was accompanied by Savion’s mentor, Adam McCann, who has a longstanding relationship with Alford. McCann shot me a few texts and told me that Alford and the staff have gone above and beyond for them. As mentioned, I think Michigan and Georgia are at the top early on.

*** I’m told that Top 100 Cocoa (Fla.) High quarterback and Michigan commit Brady Hart has done a fantastic job of recruiting top targets in the 2026 recruiting class, including the aforementioned Hiter. Remember, Hart and Hiter began to form a relationship last month at Under Armour’s Future 50 event in Florida. McCann told me that Hart is ‘very impressive.’ This is no surprise considering Hart has a magnetic personality and is one of the best quarterbacks in the country for next cycle.

*** Michigan is making a positive move with a couple of 2026 prospects from Texas in Top 100 Forney (Texas) High running back Javian Osborne and On300 Prosper (Texas) High offensive lineman Zaden Krempin. While a lot of the attention has been on Hiter, Alford has also done a fantastic job of making Osborne feel like a top priority. Osborne also has a strong relationship with area recruiter JB Brown. On the flip side of the coin, Krempin has been on campus since Thursday and was very impressed with offensive line coach Grant Newsome. He just wrapped up his visit this afternoon.

*** I’m told that Michigan assistants have informed some of the non-offered 2026 recruits on campus that they will be watching some of the workout footage and will decide on offers at some point in the next 24-48 hours. One recruit Michigan did offer on the spot was three-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorther out of Kingston (Ga.) Cass. McWhorter, who wasn’t on our initial list, visited Michigan last year and recently backed out of an early commitment to Arkansas.
