Micah Parsons makes surprising revelation on his former DC, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn

Micah Parsons makes surprising revelation on his former DC, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn had been the only defensive coordinator that Micah Parsons had in Dallas before this offseason.

Both came into the Cowboys organization ahead of the 2021-22 season, and the two grew a tight-knit relationship during that time. Quinn has since become the head coach of the Washington Commanders and the two have parted ways. Still, they maintain contact outside of football.

“He still checks in on me,” Parsons revealed, via NFL insider Jon Machota. “That’s still my big uncle, someone I love very much. But at the end of the day, I got a job to do. And that’s kick his ass twice a year. We can hug afterwards.”

Quinn, 53, has served as Parsons’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons. Dallas’ defense took a big jump in 2023, finishing as the No. 5 ranked unit in the league.

Parsons had previously spoke on how Quinn’s influence has impacted him since their paths crossed in Dallas. Specifically, Parsons noted that Quinn’s abilit to find ways for everyone on his defense to love what the do and taught him that coaching doesn’t just have to be hard-nosed.

It evolved into a sort of friendship, definetely a mentorship. “He doesn’t just treat me like a player, he treats me like a friend,” Parsons said, via On3’s Nick Geddes.

“He’s always there when I need him and we’re not afraid to have those hard conversations whether it’s father to son or player to coach. We have them no matter what.”

Prior to joining the Cowboys, Quinn spent five plus seasons as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.

He finished with a winning record of 43-42 during his tenure, the highlight of which came when Quinn lead Atlanta to a Super Bowl defeat in 2016 in the infamous 28-3 New England Patriots comeback. The Falcons relieved him of his duties after an 0-5 start to the 2020 season. Quinn also coached the “Legion of Boom” defense in Seattle, helping lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2013.

Quinn is now tasked with rebuilding the Washington Commanders. The’re coming off a season in which they finished 4-13 and earned the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft, where they selected Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The next time Quinn and Parsons will be seen together in a football capacity is when the Commanders will welcome the Dallas Cowboys to their home field during Week 12 of the regular season.
