Penn State offered 2026 4-star RB Shahn Alston and immediately moves up his list
Painesville (Ohio) Harvey four-star running back Shahn Alston now has 20 offers. The 5-foot-11, 204-pound junior visited Penn State on Friday and he left Happy Valley with an offer from the Nittany Lions.
Things couldn’t have gone better for the No. 85 overall prospect and No. 9 running back in the 2026 On300.
“The visit exceeded my expectations,” Alston told On3. “I didn’t expect the visit to be as family-oriented as it was. It was more of a relationship-building type of day than just walking around the facilities. Relationships are a priority for me when picking a school and they did a great job with that today.”
After spending time with the staff, playing games and swimming, Alston got some work in with Ja’Juan Seider. That is when he earned the offer. Those two are building quite a connection.
“Coach Seider has been consistent with me since June 15th. Our relationship has grown tremendously. He made sure I felt like a priority on this visit as well as coaching me up and giving me advice throughout camp.”
Seider drew a lot of praise from Alston. He spent some time with head coach James Franklin too. Alston felt the love from him and Penn State has quickly become a contender for one of the best in Ohio.
“This offer means a lot to me,” Alston said. “Penn State is a great school and definitely a top three school for me at the moment. The competition game we played, learning from coach Seider and coach Walker during the camp, and the conversation I had with coach Franklin were highlights from this visit. I’m really impressed and looking forward to getting back in the fall.”
It was good getting around coach Seider and the rest of the staff.
Alston’s next visit is to Michigan this weekend for their BBQ.
Alston knows what he is looking for in a school
Alston was busy in the spring, as he took visits to Louisville, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
“First and foremost, I look at the education of a school because football is only going to last for so long,” Alston said. “It might be four years, but I’m looking at the next 40 years. That is why education is important to me, as well as the networking opportunities that a school provides. Some schools go out and do extracurriculars where they get to meet business owners and talk with businesspeople.
“Another thing I am going to look at when I make my decision is development. I look at the running backs coaches, the guys they send to the league and how their numbers improved from freshman year to senior year. Lastly, I look at the relationships that me and my family have. I want my family to be comfortable with whatever school I go to because I’m going to be away from them. The more comfortable they are with me leaving, the better I feel about a school.”
