5-star WR committed to Ohio State keeping door open for Miami Hurricanes: “They’re still trying to get at me”
New Haven (Ind.) 2024 five-star receiver Mylan Graham has been committed to Ohio State for over a month, but his relationship with Miami receivers coach Kevin Beard is keeping the Hurricanes in the running for the No. 13 overall prospect in the class.
Graham was part of the horde of elite prospects who visited Coral Gables May 13 for the Hurricanes’ elite junior day, which was highlighted by a pool party at head coach Mario Cristobal’s house, and Miami is aggressively pushing to bring him back to campus for a second visit. The 6-foot-0.5, 170-pound receiver is willing to consider returning to South Florida thanks to his relationship with Beard, which dates back to his time at Toledo.
“I’ve had a strong relationship with him since he was at Toledo, before I even had any offers,” Graham said. “I have a really good relationship with him. I know if I went to play for somebody like him, or play for him, I know I can trust myself in his hands.”
The five-star prospect committed to Ohio State April 3 over programs including Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan and Notre Dame, but Miami has tried to work its way into the picture since.
Miami’s recruiting pitch has largely centered around building a winning culture in Coral Gables and restoring The U to its former glory, but Graham said seeing offensive improvement from Miami this year would go a long way in swaying him toward the Hurricanes.
“When I went down there, they made a good impression on me,” Graham said. “They were showing me around campus and everything. It was a better campus than I expected when I went. As far as recruiting me, they’re still trying to get at me but they understand I’m committed to Ohio State.”
Graham is open to returning to Miami, too.
“It could be a possibility,” Graham said. “It could be a possibility for sure. I don’t know too much about it yet, but I can definitely see myself getting back down.”
He doesn’t know if he would return to Miami in an official or unofficial capacity and is yet to lock in any official visits. In addition to Ohio State, Graham would like to set official visits with Alabama, Tennessee and Purdue and has interest in getting to Oregon and Penn State. He said he’d like to take a few official visits during the fall season to visit schools on game weekends.
But the recipe for Miami to stay in the picture is fairly simple.
“Really just keep recruiting me hard and show me the culture’s changing,” Graham said. “Show me that it’s actually changing. That’ll be it, really.”
CaneSport’s Take
Much like with Five-Star Plus+ Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith, Miami’s chances with Graham will be largely influenced by the Hurricanes’ offensive improvement this fall. Miami has a fair shot to get Graham back to campus, but it feels like most of the Hurricanes’ chances will rest on their offensive production.
