Top 100 prospect Liam Andrews opens up about Penn State and other top schools

One of Penn State’s most important prospects in the Class of 2024 announced his top schools Friday. Four-star lineman Liam Andrews should be no stranger to Nittany Lion fans. Since camping with James Franklin and his staff last summer, he’s been one of the most talked about athletes in the region. The fact that he could play either offensive or defensive line has only made him more valuable.
For thost paying attention, it should be no surprise that the Nittany Lions made the cut. In additon to Penn State, Andrews included Florida, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
Andrews went in-depth with On3’s Hayes Fawcett about each of his schools. You can read those comments below.
Andrews Discusses Top Schools
Penn State
“Penn State has been recruiting me very hard since my recruitment started to heat up. I have a great relationship with both OL/DL staff and I feel like they are a team that could compete for a national championship soon.”
Ohio State
“Ohio State has been great at producing NFL talent and is consistently in the national [championship] playoffs. I have a good relationship with the staff there as well.”
Recruiting: Who are Penn State’s most important official visitors for June 9-11?
Wisconsin
“Wisconsin is another team that has been recruiting very hard. I have a great connection with [defensive line coach Greg Scruggs] and could see Wisconsin being a team to rise up in the Big 10 with Luke Fickell and the staff he has brought. Wisconsin is also a top academic school that offers a great degree.”
Florida
“Florida is another team recruiting me for both sides of the ball. They are a team that has had a lot of success in the 2024 recruiting cycle and a team I think could rise up in the SEC. They play top-tier competition in the SEC and offer a great degree as well.”
South Carolina
“South Carolina is another SEC team that I think is on the rise. They have beaten top teams in the SEC and have gained some great recruits in this year and last year’s class. I like the culture and vibe that Coach [Shane] Beamer and the staff has instilled in the program.”
LSU
“LSU is a program with great tradition. New [defensive line] coach, Coach [Jimmy] Lindsey, the former South Carolina coach, has been recruiting me hard and I have built a great connection with him. Now he is with the Tigers, who have a fantastic environment and culture built on graduating champions under [head coach] Brian Kelly.”
Hoops: Penn State set to host former top 100 transfer portal visitor
Miami
“Miami is a program centered around the trenches. Coach [Mario] Cristobal is a former O-lineman coupled with Coach [Alex] Mirabal, an [offensive line] guru. They are a great program for O-linemen. Miami is also in a beautiful area and is a place with great football history.”
Oklahoma
“Oklahoma is a place with great culture. They have a great program for personal development outside of football and have a great fanbase and culture. Coach [Bill] Bedenbaugh is a great developer of NFL talent as well.”
What’s next for Andrews?
Official visits, of course.
Andrews has made it clear that in order for him to enroll early next January, he has to make a commitment before his school, The Dexter School, will allow him to begin his senior project. Because of that, a commitment should come quickly after Andrews wraps up his visits.
Andrews hasn’t announced his official visit schedule publicly yet, but our sources have informed us for a few weeks now that he’s expected to at Penn State next weekend, June 2-4.
Which other schools will receive his remaining four visits is still unclear. We do expect Florida to be one of those schools. Many believe that the Gators and Nittany Lions are in the best position currently, although official visits will have a massive role in where he ultimately ends up.
Andrews is currently ranked No. 55 nationally by On3. He’s the second-ranked offensive guard but has informed schools that he’d prefer to play defensive tackle at the next level. Penn State is recruiting him on defense currently.
On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Nittany Lions a 22.7 percent chance of landing Andrews’ commitment. That’s the highest of any school.
