On300 OL Michael Uini goes in-depth on Michigan ahead of official visit

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland recently caught up with On300 Copperas Cove (Texas) High offensive lineman Michael Uini to get his thoughts on Michigan and more.

Here is their full Q&A.

EJ: Before we talk about Michigan, let’s get into your overall recruiting process. What’s the latest with everything?

MU: Right now, I have five schools locked in for official visits. I have Clemson the first weekend. Florida is the second weekend. Michigan is the third weekend. Georgia is the fourth weekend. Alabama is going to be on a weekday in between Michigan and Georgia. I’m still considering Texas, but I couldn’t find a space for them. I initially wanted to make a decision before the season, but I thought about it today, and I said why not September 9, which is my mom’s birthday. It would be a special day.

EJ: What are some things you’re really looking for going into these official visits?

MU: I’m looking at the coaches and how they handle things. I want to see how they are around players and how they coach. I’m looking at the education side as well. I want to see the business schools and what they have to offer. Also, what they have to offer players for life after football.

EJ: Let’s dive into Michigan. Why are they in your final group?

MU: I love Michigan. I love Coach (Sherrone) Moore. When I went down there, I was surprised by it all. The strength and conditioning coach (Ben Herbert) and Coach (Jim) Harbaugh was great. I connect with Coach Moore every couple of days. We have a well-bonded relationship.

EJ: What stands out about Michigan offensive line coach Sherrone Moore?

MU: Just the way he is not just as a coach but as a person as well. I really like his personality. He’s chill but enthusiastic. He loves his kids and family and players — really, everyone around him. It’s fun to be around him.

EJ: Michigan has won back-to-back Joe Moore Awards for best offensive line in the country. How much does that appeal to you?

MU: That’s impressive. It’s hard to win that. To win it two times in the row is special. Knowing Coach Moore and the way he develops and the accolades that come with it like the Joe Moore Award, it’s a no brainer that Michigan can develop me and get me to where I want to be.

EJ: I know you went out there in the winter. What stood about that visit?

MU: It was a special visit. It was impressive not just for me but also for my dad. He was impressed by the whole visit. He liked the football side of it and the education. The town has everything that you need.

EJ: What do you want to see on the official visit?

MU: I saw basically everything on the first visit. Now, I’m looking forward to getting to know the coaches and the players on a deeper level. I want to see what their goals and aspirations are for the future. My dad and I talked to my mom about the first visit. As a whole family, we’re excited to go out there.

EJ: Michigan already has a bigger offensive line class with five guys committed. Does that number matter to you?

MU: No, not for me. I just know that wherever I go, I’m going to work and earn that starting spot.

EJ: Have any of the Michigan commits recruited you?

MU: Blake (Frazier) texted me while I was on the visit. He was talking about how special the place is. We’ve been on a couple of visits together. We talk a lot.

EJ: Will distance or climate factor into your decision?

MU: Not distance. I’m open to everywhere. As far as weather, I grew up in Washington state. It’s cold 24/7 over there. I’m used to it. When I was nine, we moved to Georgia because my mom was stationed out there for a year. We moved to Texas after that. We’ve been down here five or six years.
