4-star DB Amari Wallace loving Miami commitment as season approaches
Miami (Fla.) Central four-star defensive back Amari Wallace’s commitment to the Hurricanes June 20 didn’t come as a major surprise considering his longtime love for the school, numerous connections to the program and multiple predictions for the Canes to land the No. 251 overall prospect. So it’s not a major surprise the No. 21 safety in the 2025 cycle says he’s “locked in” with the Hurricanes either.
Wallace may take quick unofficial visits to other schools this fall, he said, but remains solid to Miami and plans on signing with the Hurricanes in December. Wallace feels good about his decision to commit to Miami thanks to his relationship with head coach Mario Cristobal and secondary coach Chevis Jackson and believes in Cristobal’s vision to restore the program to its former glory.
“I feel good about my decision,” Wallace said. “Like I’ve been saying, it’s family first, and then the communication. The communication I have with coach Cristobal and how we talk, how me and coach Jackson check in on each other, keep each other updated just talking on the phone with each other. Coach Jackson, I won’t say friend, but he’s like another coach-friend of me — so more saying that we can just get on the phone and just talk. I don’t have to act like a football player. I can act normally.”
Wallace said “a couple of schools” congratulated him on his commitment, although he has not maintained active communication with any programs since his decision. He’s instead focused on working out with his team and setting his sights on winning his third state championship in four years.
And possibly a national title.
“(I want to be) just a better leader to my team,” Wallace said. “Because there is no perfect leader. There’s always something to improve on. So I’d say me always being there for my team and then me just being more of a leader (is important).”
Wallace said he wants to finish with more tackles, interceptions, pass deflections and blocked kicks than he did his sophomore and junior years. He recorded two interceptions as a sophomore and four as a junior but said he hopes to finish with around eight picks this fall.
“I just want everything to keep going up,” Wallace said.
CaneSport’s Take
We expect Wallace to get back down to Miami’s campus plenty this fall for games and may see him return to Coral Gables for a quick trip in between the July and August dead periods, but I’m particularly excited to watch his senior season. Wallace has improved each year at Central and was a must-land prospect for Miami in this class, so I’m eager to see if he takes another step forward this season.
