Blue Chips: Michigan a top school for key recruiting targets

Blue Chips: Michigan a top school for key recruiting targets

The latest on Michigan recruiting…

*** Michigan made the final four for On300 Monroe (N.C.) High safety Jordan Young this week. However, I think Michigan is on the back half of this list. Clemson and Florida State appear to be the frontrunners here, and Michigan just landed a safety commit from Ivan Taylor, who shares some similarities. Michigan could make room for Young, but I just don’t see that situation playing out. As I’ve said before, the focus for Michigan is on cornerbacks. On300 prospect Jayden Sanders is trending the right way, but U-M definitely wants two corners for a total of four on the back end.

*** Michigan made the Top 12 for five-star 2026 Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab offensive lineman Lamar Brown, the No. 5 overall prospect in the country for next cycle. Michigan has recruited well in Louisiana thanks in large part to area recruiter native Ron Bellamy, a Bayou State native. Michigan also has a lot to sell to offensive lineman. But it seems like just getting him in for a visit is a win. University Lab is very LSU friendly on the recruiting trail. Right now, the Tigers already hold the heavy lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 98.3 percent chance of landing him.

*** Michigan also made the Top 12 for On300 2026 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive lineman G’Nivre Carr. The Wolverines have had recent success at IMG Academy, and I expect offensive line commit Kaden Strayhorn to assist the staff in this recruitment. Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome visited IMG during the spring evaluation period and extended an offer to Carr, who seems genuinely interested. When I caught up with Carr in late May, he told me that he loved U-M’s offensive line production and is looking to make his first trip to Ann Arbor soon. Alabama, Florida State, Miami and Tennessee are some other early contenders.

*** Michigan also made the Top 13 for Top 100 2026 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back Zech Fort. Fort has already made several visits to Michigan and is very familiar with the program. Remember, Fort also has family in the Detroit-metro. There was a lack of contact during the staff changes this offseason, but Fort had a really positive first call with new secondary coach LaMar Morgan last month. Morgan did re-offer, and Fort told me he is hoping to get back to Ann Arbor at some point this fall. Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and others are high on the list as well.
