Inside the battle to land On3’s No. 1 ranked cornerback DJ Pickett
Zephyrhills (Fla.) High On3 five-star plus cornerback DJ Pickett is set to announce his college decision on July 17.
The blue-chipper is one week away from declaring his college plans. The final three schools are LSU, Miami and Oregon.
“It’s back and forth,” Pickett’s father Damien said on Monday of this week. “Pros and cons to all three programs.”
Oregon has had a lot of buzz as of late, but the Hurricanes are perhaps gaining steam again in the final days.
The elder Pickett elaborated on why these programs are still in the running.
Regarding LSU
“Corey Raymond. The defensive backs, the history of their defensive backs. The location. Baton Rouge is in a great location, the school is.
“Just the Corey Raymond factor. And it’s Defensive Back U. DBU. That’s a big factor for LSU. The fact they have developed so many DBs. Coach Raymond developed so many DBs at the school. The recruiting is in the pudding. There are so many greats that played at LSU. I’d say history as far as LSU.”
Regarding Miami
“Tradition. Home. It’s just home.
“We’ve been Hurricanes fans forever. Myself, him, the family, it’s always been home. My nephew (Booker Pickett Jr.) is there.
Miami is a private school. The smaller class room is something we like. There’s a lot of resources at Miami too.
“I think Coach (Mario) Cristobal, I really truly believe he can win a National Championship at Miami.
Regarding Oregon
“Oregon has resources outside of football. Like I’ve told you before just the resources of Oregon. You got Nike there. It’s more than just Nike at Oregon. The people. The program they’re putting together is something special.
“Coach (Chris) Hampton is relentless. They’ve showed us a path to the football field. They have a plan for him. If had to describe Coach Hampton, relentless.”
