Ohio State recruiting observations from the MVFCA Social Justice 7-on-7

DAYTON – The Miami Valley Football Coaches association hosted their annual Social Justice 7-on-7 event on Tuesday and it brought some of the top teams in on Ohio to compete against each other. Lettermen Row was in attendance and saw pair of Ohio State prospects in action. Let’s get into our observations from the event.

Jamier Brown

– 2027 Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne wide receiver Jamier Brown was one of the top prospects in action on Tuesday. Brown is known for his track speed and he used that speed to get behind every secondary that Wayne faced. He has also continued to improve as a wide receiver. One thing Ohio State wide receivers coach Brian Hartline kept telling Brown at camp last month was to run all of his routes at full speed and he did a much better job of that on Tuesday. He consistently created separation from defensive backs and caught every ball thrown his way. In short, Brown continues to improve as a receiver every time Lettermen Row sees him.

– Ohio State offered Brown last month and he has the potential to be the best wide receiver prospect to come out of Ohio since Brian Hartline was named the full-time wide receivers coach in Columbus. The Buckeyes will have to battle Big Ten and SEC programs for Brown but Hartline has Ohio State in a good spot early in his recruitment.

Kobe Clapper

– Four-star Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier linebacker Kobe Clapper was the only other prospect at the event with an Ohio State offer. Clapper, the No. 167 overall prospect in the 2026 On300, was a difficult evaluation as primarily played safety despite being recruited ranked as a linebacker. Regardless, he moved well in space and impressed Lettermen Row with how he commanded the defensive from the secondary. Clapper also physically looks the part 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds.

– Ohio State linebackers coach James Laurinaitis offered Clapper his spring after seeing him at St. Xavier’s college showcase and the two have continued to build their relationship. It is early but Clapper’s recruitment is shaping up be another Ohio State vs. Notre Dame battle on the recruiting trail.

Jonathan Hewitt

– The third prospect of note that Lettermen Row saw on Tuesday was 2026 Eaton (Ohio) kicker Jonathan Hewitt. The 6-foot-2 and 175-pound Hewitt is the No. 1 kicker in the 2026 class according to Kohl’s Kicking and he impressed Ohio State at camp last month. He has started to build a relationship with special teams assistant Gunner Daniel and is a prospect that Ohio State will keep an eye on this season.
