Georgia Football 24 for ’24: Warren Brinson
We kicked off our 24 for ’24 series with 24 days to go until the turning of the calendar from July to August. With Georgia getting fall camp started around then, what better time to turn the attention to the season and the team’s most important players.
Importance can have different meanings. We’ll try to explain our thinking for you with each individual. In some cases, it’s about their ability on the field and the difficult the Dawgs would have in replacing that. Others could be important for reasons outside of that.
Yesterday, our attention was on sophomore linebacker Raylen Wilson, who came in at No. 24 on the list. Today, it’s No. 23: senior defensive lineman Warren Brinson.

Position: Defensive Lineman
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 305 pounds

Georgia returns a couple of key contributors on the defensive side of the ball. Nazir Stackhouse and Smael Mondon decided not to enter the NFL Draft. Others could have explored options in the transfer portal but are returning to Athens instead. Count Warren Brinson as one of those that made a choice to come back and try to end his UGA career on a better note.
The fifth year defensive lineman is entering his final year of eligibility. He’s been a contributor in some capacity all four years on campus. As a freshman in 2020, Brinson appeared in seven contests. That number was upped to 12 on a defensive line that featured four future first round picks in 2021 before Brinson saw the field in all 15 of Georgia’s contests in 2022.
Brinson’s numbers haven’t been eye popping any season. His first two years saw a combined 12 tackles (3 as a freshman and 9 as a sophomore) before totaling 12, including a trio of tackles for loss, in 2022. Last season, Brinson posted 21 tackles including a couple of sacks. His best game came against Georgia Tech in the regular season finale with six tackles. He recorded multiple stops five times on the year including in each of the final three games.
Throughout his career, there have been times where Brinson has flashed and played outstanding football. At other times, he just seems to be another guy on the defensive line. Some of that could be because Georgia’s defensive system doesn’t ask for too much out of the group up front. Defensive linemen are asked to eat up blocks, thus opening up alleys for the linebackers behind them to run free and make plays. Brinson is capable of doing that and some. Consistency will be key though.
The Savannah, Ga. native will be counted on as an important piece of Georgia’s defense in 2024. Not only will he be expected to be a contributor on the field, but as an experienced senior, he’ll be looked to for leadership too. If UGA’s defense is to be better against the run in 2024 after the Bulldogs finished outside the top-15 in the nation for the first time since 2018, it starts up front, and Brinson can be a big part of helping make that improvement possible.
