Lucky Charms: Latest on where Notre Dame’s 2025 wide receiver board stands

Here are today’s Lucky Charms, a Monday-Thursday insider notes article on Notre Dame football recruiting.

Don’t get me wrong, four-star safety Ivan Taylor decommitting from Notre Dam is a big loss for the Irish, but it’s not too bad because of what ND has committed in the secondary already. However, when it comes to where things stand with receiver recruiting, Notre Dame doesn’t have the same luxury. It has a couple commits already in Elijah Burress and Jerome Bettis Jr., but the staff needs to close strong with a couple big-time receivers.

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Derek Meadows has been the top of the board target for the Irish for quite some time, and the feeling has been that it’s a tight battle between Notre Dame and Alabama coming out of his official visits. LSU still feels it’s in the running as well. Multiple Irish sources felt really good about Meadows a couple weeks ago, but that optimism has faded a bit.

Notre Dame doesn’t have a strong feel on where Meadows is leaning, but in checking in with Alabama sources, they don’t really know either. If I were a betting man, I’d project Meadows to end up at Alabama, which is me singing a new tune from what I’ve felt in previous weeks and months. If he does go there, it would be a case of the Crimson Tide winning the battle but not the war.

Shifting to La Verne (Calif.) Bonita’s Dylan Robinson, I’m liking where the Irish are at in his recruitment. He is close to making a final decision privately, and he will announce his pledge July 18. He hasn’t posted anything about his finalists yet, but I feel pretty confident in saying that it’s Notre Dame, Washington and UCLA. His communication with Notre Dame has been really good of late, which is a positive sign. One interesting factor is what side of the ball he prefers to play in college, as Notre Dame likes him at receiver, while the other two are after him as a defensive back.

Again, I like Notre Dame here — not with a ton of confidence though.

And then with Houston Dekaney’s Tanook Hines, your guess is as good as mine. I felt like Notre Dame had a slight lead for a while, and some sources were buzzing coming off his official visit. But since then, no one I’ve talked to — whether it’s sources in South Bend or elsewhere — has had a good feel on what Hines will end up doing. But I’m starting to feel more confident that Hines won’t end up at Notre Dame.

Could that be wrong and he commits to the Irish next Monday? It could be; I’m having a hard time figuring out what the young man is going to do. But I think USC is in better shape, and Texas is turning up the heat for Hines.

If Notre Dame does land just Robinson of this trio, then I would expect the Irish staff to go into the season to try to find a fourth receiver. We’ll see where things go from here. I can’t rule any scenario out when it comes to these three and where they’ll land.
