Is OU basketball in position for a late 2024 steal?
We had all moved onto the 2025 class for OU basketball. But a change last week has put the Sooners in the running for a late steal for the 2024 class.
In the running, but get ready, because everybody is coming. It was huge news last week when 2025 top-100 prospect Jeremiah Fears decommitted from Illinois.
The logic being Fears is going to reclassify to the 2024 class and open things up. And one of the first teams to reach out? Yep, Porter Moser and OU.
Technically, OU is full on scholarships. But Name, Image and Likeness has made a lot of things possible that weren’t in years past.
OU jumped in early, but here comes everybody else. Fears, in an interview with PrepHoops over the weekend, mentioned around 10 schools already, with more to come. He also said he didn’t know what visits he was going to take.
OU sources are hopeful but realistic. If Fears never makes it to Norman or never even attempts to schedule a trip, well, you know what’s what.
So, yes, we’re all about the 2025 class and even the 2026 group. But keep one eye and one ear ready for any developments with Fears.
2025 C Jaden Toombs
Toombs was offered by OU during the spring. He is a consensus four-star and top-100 prospect across the board.
As of now, Texas Tech is the perceived favorite. But the Sooners are hoping to change that. He caught up with On3 last week.
OKLAHOMA: “They’ve been recruiting me for a long time, but they just now offered after that first live session. I’m really close with Coach (Ryan) Humphrey. I like how they play, they play hard and they play through their bigs, so that stood out to me.”
2026 SF Jalen Montonati
This feels like an uphill battle for the OSU legacy. However, OU keeps punching away and trying to leave a mark. Montonati is right on the cusp of five-star status, ranked in the top 30 of every recruiting service.
Montonati also caught up with On3 last week.
OKLAHOMA: “I got to see how Coach (Porter) Moser runs things. He runs a tight ship over there and it is cool to see how he gets his guys ready and how he pushes his guys. I was there for a practice and it is very intense. They get up and down a lot, bring high intensity, and don’t have a lot of breaks. So that was really cool to see.”
