Who’s next? Latest intel on FSU recruits expected to announce decisions in July
Florida State got the solid recruiting surge it was seeking in the month of June and early July as the Seminoles added six commitments, which pushed them into the Top 10 of the On3 team recruiting rankings.
While FSU did lose a few key battles in early July, the ‘Noles also got the momentum kick-started again with last week’s commitment from four-star OL Peyton Joseph. Now, Mike Norvell and his staff are looking for more, with several important recruits expected to announce decisions this month.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of those battles and who could be next to pop for Florida State.
Can Florida State keep fireworks going in July?
With 10 commitments so far, including one five-star in OL Solomon Thomas and nine four-stars, the Seminoles are ranked No. 10 in the team recruiting rankings with plenty of opportunities to move up. They have the fewest number of commitments in the top 10, and only one other school has less than 15.
When looking at quality, Florida State’s commitments have the fourth-best average star rating in the country, behind only Oregon, Ohio State and LSU.
The two recruitments circled at this point for Florida State in regards to upcoming decisions would be three-star DB Max Redmon, who announces on Tuesday, and then four-star WR Daylan McCutcheon on Saturday.
With Redmon, it feels like Florida State is sitting in a strong spot as long as the Seminoles continue to push leading up to the announcement. So far, the intel points to FSU doing that and getting some good news on Tuesday. He is a prospect that defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain has put a lot of time in for at the corner position, and he’s also one that likely sees a boost in his recruiting ranking as the season goes on. Indiana is the other school we hear consistently regarding Redmon. While we have wondered if they have other DBs rated higher on their board, the ‘Noles seem to love Redmon’s versatility in that he can play corner and safety.
McCutcheon would be a huge addition for Florida State, and the confidence remains high from the FSU side, but this is still a tight battle with USC. Both schools can pitch the success of wide receivers in their systems, and both have dynamic offensive minds as head coaches. We’ve heard confidence from some sources in Tallahassee and Texas, where McCutcheon is from, but this one is too close to call right now.
One more positive for FSU is that McCutcheon does have some family in South Florida. But USC has also made a strong impression here, and we can’t totally count out the home-state Texas Longhorns. The Seminoles and Trojans have built the best relationships, but Texas could loom large in the end.
Another important July decision is expected from four-star WR Vernell Brown. If I was putting money down, yes, I would still go with the Gators since he is a legacy there. But Florida State has clearly made a strong impression, and I have not heard anything definitive when it comes to a school being told of the choice. As of late Sunday night, I was told that Brown’s feelings for FSU are quite strong, and he is very close friends with Florida State QB commit Tramell Jones, who recently shut down his recruitment.
Another important domino for FSU could reside with four-star Georgia RB Ousmane Kromah, who is expected to make his decision in late July from what I hear. The main schools here have stayed the same in Georgia, Auburn and FSU. This has been a very tricky recruitment to follow with multiple twists and turns, but the most recent information I’ve gathered is that FSU might have a slight lead, which surprised me a little as I thought it would be one of the two SEC programs.
Some of my Florida State contacts view Georgia as the biggest threat, while others indicate that it’s Auburn. I do know that FSU has talked with Kromah frequently in the past few weeks, and I’m not hearing that any school has been told of a final decision. This is one we will monitor heavily while waiting to hear a decision date.
What happens with Kromah could impact what takes place between FSU and four-star RB Byron Louis, of course. I feel good about the Seminoles’ chances with Louis, and I believe they would love to have both backs in this class, but it can be challenging to land two elite running backs in the same year. So that’s another thing to monitor.
Turning the attention to the secondary, one big name to keep an eye on is four-star DB Bryce Fitzgerald, who also took an official visit to FSU in June. He is close friends with new 2026 FSU DB commitment Tedarius Hughes. Early on, I would say the Gators held the edge here, but I believe Florida State gained some major momentum on that official visit. And I hear he could announce in late July or early August.
There’s also four-star DBs Ladarian Clardy and Jaboree Antoine, both of whom FSU likes a lot. With Clardy, I get the impression he’s torn between Florida State and Ole Miss at this point. I did hear that he had a really good chat with the Seminoles’ staff over the weekend, and I expect him to visit FSU in late July. Then with Antoine, I think FSU is a tight battle with Miami here. While some might feel the ‘Canes hold the edge, I hear it’s a coin flip at this point, and Surtain’s relationship with Antoine is strong. I haven’t heard as much about LSU, but one contact in Louisiana tells me the Tigers have started to creep back into this one. I would still have FSU and Miami tied at the top for now.
There are some other targets that officially visited Florida State that I’m not expecting to land at FSU, but we will still monitor. I expect four-star DB Onis Konanbanny to likely end up with Tennessee, and I believe four-star DB Jordan Young will be Clemson. Just wanted to tidy things up with both of those.
