3 most important Florida Gators targets

3 most important Florida Gators targets

With eight prospects committed, the Florida Gators are nowhere near finished and have numerous targets committing before the fall.

Some of those 2025 prospects are bigger priorities than others. A few play a position Florida needs to hit on this cycle, while others are already trending toward the Gators. Each recruitment is different.

For our Gators Online subscribers, below are our three most important UF targets still on the board.

Gators legacy targets lead the way

5-star WR Vernell Brown III, Orlando (Fla.) Jones
On3 Industry Ranking
: No. 32 prospect | No. 6 wide receiver | No. 5 prospect in Florida
Notes: Considering the momentum Florida has in this recruitment along with Brown being a major legacy target, it would be a significant kick in the gut if the Gators were to lose out. This is a high-character kid who would make an immediate impact both on and off the field. He has leadership skills and could one day be a captain for the Florida Gators. He’s that type of person. Florida State, Miami and Ohio State are the Gators’ top competition, but UF is buzzing right now. The Gators can’t afford to let this recruitment slip away ahead of this month’s expected commitment.

4-star CB Ben Hanks Jr., Miami Booker T. Washington
On3 Industry Ranking
: No. 90 prospect | No. 10 cornerback | No. 13 prospect in Florida
Notes: Later this summer, Hanks will likely choose Florida, Miami or Georgia. And right now, it’s a tight battle for the Florida Gators legacy. There has been talk about the Hurricanes and Bulldogs being in a better spot, but the Gators made up serious ground in June after receiving multiple visits. Not only is Hanks a legacy target, but you can make an argument he should be ranked higher. His film really stands out as a lockdown cornerback. The Gators don’t have a single defensive back committed either, so landing Hanks would be a statement for different reasons. Getting him back in Gainesville later this month should be a top priority though. Florida might need to in order to come out on top.

4-star S Bryce Fitzgerald, Miami Christopher Columbus
On3 Industry Ranking
: No. 219 prospect | No. 20 safety | No. 31 prospect in Florida
Notes: Fitzgerald has been a priority for the Gators since the start of the year, but it’s safe to say he’s even more important now. That’s because Hylton Stubbs recently committed to Miami, while Lagonza Hayward and Jaylan Morgan are still on the board but announcing soon and could very well land elsewhere. With Fitzgerald, this is a lifelong Florida fan who the Gators made a significant move with in June. Florida State and Florida have been mentioned most as of late, while Miami and LSU are in the mix too. This is likely the most realistic option at safety right now and one the Gators need in this class. Like with Brown and Hanks, Fitzgerald plans to make a commitment before the end of summer.
