WBB Recruiting Tidbits: Does LSU lead for a top-10 prospect?
LSU has set the table for the fall months to be filled with fireworks with its work in the first half of 2024. Kim Mulkey and her staff have been all-in on building an elite class of 2025 and already have a top 25 player on board in Bella Hines and are in the market for more once official visits start coming in a couple of months.
Here are the official visit dates to know, which we covered a couple of weeks ago.
Sept. 6-8: Pania Davis, ZaKiyah Johnson, and Grace Knox
Sept. 20-22: Divine Bourrage, Ayla McDowell
Aaliyah Chavez’ date will come out later in the summer I assume, but the staff wants to keep that information under wraps for the time being. With Chavez still the top player in the country and the top player on LSU’s board, nothing has changed for the time being. The same is true with Bella Hines who remains committed and locked in. Let’s talk about the rest of the targets on LSU’s board.
*** Divine Bourrage announced her top six this week and, to no surprise, LSU was on the list. The Tigers have been one of the top teams in Bourrage’s recruitment, but as I’ve talked with sources, it has become more apparent LSU is the leader in Bourrage’s recruitment leaving the summer. Getting her on campus in September is significant as the Tigers’ staff will surely push for a commitment well before November’s signing day. Bourrage’s ability to comfortably play the 1-3 positions on both sides of the court is appealing to the Tigers and has Bourrage as one of the top targets on their board.
*** Grace Knox is going to be a major piece LSU also wants in this class. With Aneesah Morrow entering her final season, there’s an obvious pitch to Knox to step in and replace Morrow immediately. At 6-foot-2, Knox is the No. 13 player in the class according to On3, but has excellent skill that resembles that of Morrow who can score at all three levels and has superb athleticism.
*** Pania Davis is heralded because of her size at 6-foot-6 and experience after two years in junior college. She would be a welcome addition to pair with Aalyah Del Rosario and SaMyah Smith in the frontcourt.
*** ZaKiyah Johnson and Ayla McDowell are also on LSU’s board and two players Kim Mulkey likes. I think we need to see how the aforementioned recruitments play out before I can fully asses where LSU is with these two, but they’re certainly talented players LSU would be happy getting in their class.
*** It’s interesting looking at different class combinations. Of course, if LSU lands Chavez, it immediately becomes the top class in the country, most likely with Chavez and Hines and any of the other targets. Even if the Tigers don’t land Chavez and instead get Bourrage and Pania Davis to pair with Hines, that’s a class worth celebrating. I think there’s a chance LSU even takes four players in this class if Pania Davis is on board, since she’ll come to LSU as a junior. There are a ton of fascinating combinations with this group and that’s refreshing after a 2024 class where it was all or nothing on the top five players. Now, LSU has options and intent on securing a top rated class for 2025.
