Kentucky Targets Mandrell and Darryll Desir Commit Elsewhere

Kentucky hosted about two dozen prospects for official visits during the month of June. The Wildcats parlayed many of those official visits into commitments, but you can’t win ’em all.

On Friday morning a pair of twins from South Florida, Mandrell Desir and Darryll Desir, announced they’re staying in the Sunshine State. The Desir twins will play for Gus Malzahn at UCF.

The Desir Twins are pass-rushers on the edge of the Miami Norland defensive line, clocking in around 6-foot-3, 220-pounds. The three-star talents received some interest early in the recruiting process from all of the Florida schools, but UCF was the only one that pushed its chips all in. Kentucky was the only other school that hosted the brothers for official visits.

Kentucky spot recruits in South Florida. It’s the second straight day a SoFlo talent has committed elsewhere, as Samari Reed chose Ole Miss.

Malzahn notched a Fourth of July win with a one-time Kentucky recruiting target, Andrew Stargel. The Georgia IOL had an odd recruitment. He canceled his official visit to Kentucky when it looked like he was Ohio State bound, but the Buckeyes seemingly never went all in, leading him to UCF.

We Need to Talk About the UCF Space Uniforms

Let’s take the serious football recruiting talk elsewhere for a moment. Every time I see the Space U content come from UCF, I have to wipe my eyes. “Wait, what’s going on here?”

After accepting an enormous buyout from Auburn, Gus spends his time strutting around Central Florida in a spacesuit. What a sport.

It’s odd to see the Golden Knights in powder blue, what they describe as “Canaveral Blue.” UCF has commandeered the title of “Space U” because of the school’s proximity to the Kennedy Space Center, located about 45 miles away from campus.

I doubt many UCF students are future NASA scientists. However, I understand why they’re embracing the space gimmick. What I don’t understand is why Florida State is seemingly mimicking the inferior in-state program by rolling out its own powder blue uniforms. The Seminoles have one of the best traditional looks in all of the sport. Why mess with a good thing?
